We are seeking a permanent full-time Senior Fish Biologist based out of one of Hatfield's British Columbia office locations, with consideration given to a remote working arrangement. Our ideal candidate will be adept with project management, mentorship, and client interface, and will bring a solid technical grounding to this leadership role in designing and implementing aquatic effects monitoring programs, fish restoration and habitat offsetting projects, and aquatic baseline and environmental assessment applications.

Responsibilities
  • Managing and providing technical expertise on fisheries and aquatics components of assessment, monitoring, and permitting projects.
  • Participating in environmental effects monitoring programs, fish and fish habitat baseline surveys, environmental assessment applications, effectiveness monitoring of restoration/offsetting projects, instream and environmental flow needs assessments, and species at risk assessments.
  • Acting as primary client contact on proposals and projects.
  • Preparing, submitting, and consulting on design documents/technical reports.
  • Leading meetings/presentations with/to clients and regulators/interest groups.
  • Preparing and managing project schedules and budgets.
  • Mentoring and advising technical staff.
  • Leading business development activities, including actively promoting Hatfield's services to clients, strengthening existing corporate relationships, preparing technical and financial proposals, and client negotiations.
  • Working in the field, occasionally in remote locations.
Education and Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree or higher in an appropriate field of study.
  • A relevant professional designation or eligible to apply.
  • Eight years or more relevant experience, preferably in a consulting setting.
  • Technical expertise in fish and fish habitat, including aquatic effects monitoring, fish habitat restoration and offsetting, and environmental assessment.
  • Field skills in the following areas: fish and fish habitat baseline surveys, effectiveness monitoring of restoration/offsetting projects, mark-recapture surveys, and species at risk assessments.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of federal, provincial, and municipal regulatory and permitting processes.
  • Solid analytical skills applicable to study design and statistical analysis of environmental data.
  • Managing and designing studies, writing technical reports, developing mitigation and management plans, and implementing aquatic effects assessments.
  • Client management and interface.
Other Assets/Skills
  • Background working with large multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience working in a dynamic consulting environment.
