Purpose:
The Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Designer is responsible for working closely with the DCBM Engineering team, participate in discussions with clients, as required and staff on various projects, and contributing to the technical competence and production requirements of the discipline and integrity of industrial fan equipment; improvement of fan structure and aerodynamic performance using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD); This position provides the necessary information to ensure the product designs meet the customers' requirements and DCBM minimum cost margin structure within specified timelines while meeting quality and safety standards.
This position is also required to understand all product categories of fans; Custom, OEM and Standard.

This position includes responsibility for supervision of the mechanical detailing and drafter(s) associated performance management and other human resources related functions reporting to and interacts with the Manager to update, seek guidance and obtain necessary approvals.
In addition to the responsibilities listed below, employees are also expected to complete other duties as required. All employees are expected to have familiarized themselves with the Health & Safety and Human Resources manuals, work in conjunction with all policies and procedures at Daltec, complete work as assigned to the best of your abilities, including their responsibilities as outlined below.
Key Position Responsibilities and Duties
Design Analysis
· Perform fan structure and aerodynamic evolutions using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or classical approaches.
· Perform fan structure and flow optimization and improvement (such as static stress, fatigue life, modal analysis, vibration analysis, power efficiency, and aerodynamic flow simulation, etc.).
· Complete engineering analysis reports.
Design
· Deliver design information according to required project timeframes, budgets and standards by coordinating with project members and reviewing deliverables.
· Verify fan selection data.
· Prepare Mechanical design of fan structure details for design detailers.
· Finish design reports of industrial fans.
· Review drawings to ensure they meet customer requirements.
· Troubleshooting and problem solving during the fabrication process to ensure quality product.
Document Control/Quality
· Perform fan equipment malfunction analysis and provide necessary reports.
· Maintain consistent and detailed communication with the head designer to keep the department up to date on changes.
Project Management/Process Re-engineering
· Identify key tasks that may be able to be updated or altered to provide a faster turnaround or more efficient way of operating.
· Perform testing on assembled fans or sub-assemblies of fans (bump tests, cross-phase measurement, run-tests and flow tests).
· Parameterize standard products.
Health and Safety
· Comply with all of DCBM corporate policies and procedures by adopting DCBM Quality Assurance and Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment policies, procedures and requirements.
· Contribute to a healthy and safe work environment for all employees.
· Report any accidents, injuries or unsafe working conditions to Management immediately.
Qualifications:
Education
· Successful completion of post-secondary education from an accredited educational institution in mechanical engineering or a relevant field of study.
· Successful completion of, or working towards Professional Engineer designation.
Experience
· 2-5 years' experience in a design manufacturing environment preferred.
· Previous experience with rotating machinery and fan design an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Excellent organizational skills.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills and presentation skills.
· Strong Project Management and report writing skills.
· Understand and/or gain knowledge of required codes and standards.
· Superior current knowledge of SolidWorks, ANSYS and other relevant software.
· Knowledge of machining practices.
· Strong numerical ability with experience in FEA modeling software and proposal preparation.
· Utilizes computers to formulate and disseminate information, proficient Microsoft Office product knowledge, AutoCAD and other proprietary software.
· Ability to manage multiple projects/activities in an environment subject to constant change.
· Demonstrates a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in the accumulation and transfer of information.
· Ability to work effectively unsupervised as well as collaborates within an active team.
· Knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act.
