VICE PRESIDENT OF ACCOUNTING

Who is a Vice President of Accounting?
The Vice President of Accounting is a critical role within the organization responsible for leading all accounting functions. It ensures the integrity of financial data and reporting outputs provided to both internal and external stakeholders, on behalf of the GoodLife group and related entities.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President of Accounting is a key contributor who is responsible for executing on the financial strategy of the company. Responsibilities include reviewing, refining and developing accounting policies, procedures and internal controls for an ever-changing operation. It leads the internal work effort and is the relationship owner for all external audits, and is involved during the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives with accounting, control and financial reporting issues.

Furthermore, duties include directing, reviewing and coaching a team of skilled individuals in accounts receivable, accounts payable, capital assets and inventory, property, insurance, general accounting and banking, and the Protective Data Services department advising on accounting, financial reporting, policy and process improvement issues, ensuring the success of each individual, team and department.

What will you be doing?

Monthly/Quarterly financial information processing, preparation, analysis and distribution:

  • Leads, guides, directs, and evaluates the work of managers and indirect reports to ensure systems and processes are functioning efficiently and effectively
  • Reports on variances and works with the accounting and finance teams to evaluate financial improvement opportunities and ensure accuracy
  • Distributes information timely to ensure continuity of processes (payroll, bonuses and commissions can be paid timely), external reporting requirement timelines are met, and informed internal operations decisions can be made

Year End Financial Statement preparation and income tax filing(s) for multiple legal entities:

  • Prepares individual legal entity financial statements for external audit and confidential distribution to lenders and other parties as applicable
  • Annual preparation and review of all general ledger account reconciliations and documentation to ensure it is ready for external review
  • Liaises with external audit team on financial statement documentation, presentation, disclosure and income tax filing and future planning

Develops and manages Accounting and Protective Data Services department Associates:

  • Provides key motivation, coaching and leadership including establishing goal setting, performance planning, feedback etc.
  • Regularly evaluates associate performance in line with current company performance review policies and processes
  • Works one-on-one with associates as needed to evaluate issues and resolve problems/challenges

Confidential and complex issues management:

  • Provides direction and/or input, maintains records, reconciliations and documentation for confidential matters
  • Responsible for accounting treatment and presentation for acquisitions, dispositions, investments, tax planning, dividends etc.
  • Accrues executive bonuses monthly and liaises with the CFO and Payroll to a coordinate payment
  • Responsible for all aspects of transactions and reporting for the Patchell Family Trusts liaising directly with external income tax/estate planning consultants.

Actions other activities/tasks as required, on an as needed basis, to contribute to and/or complete the required action(s) and ensure the success of the company

Do you have what it takes?

  • Honors Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a leadership role within the accounting function of a large or mid-sized organization with direct responsibility for month end and year end processes; at least 8 years of experience in an accounting/corporate finance environment
  • CPA designation
