As we prepare for the upcoming camp season, we are on the lookout for a dynamic Camp Ace Coordinator with a passion for working with autistic children, a talent for inspiring campers, staff, and volunteers and a strong background in leadership.

Job Description:

We are seeking a passionate and organized Teen Camp Coordinator to oversee our interest-based community summer programming. The Teen Camp Coordinator will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing a diverse range of activities tailored to the interests of our campers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in leadership and program development, excellent communication skills, and a genuine enthusiasm for working with autistic teens.

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Community and Family Services Coordinator and community partners, develop and implement a comprehensive schedule of interest-based program for teens
  • Collaborate with community partners, program staff and volunteers to ensure activities align with camp goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with community partners contributing their expertise to the camp experience
  • Coordinate logistics such as equipment, supplies, and facilities to support program activities
  • Support campers with engagement if/when they are feeling distressed
  • Communicate regularly with campers and their families to provide updates and gather feedback
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making adjustments as needed to enhance the camper experience
  • Supervise staff and volunteers; providing regular feedback and coaching
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and risk management procedures
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for campers, staff, and volunteers
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of the interest-based approach through camper feedback and staff observation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree completed or in progress in the following areas: recreation management, education, disability studies, psychology, etc
  • Previous experience coordinating programs or events, preferably in a camp setting
  • Previous experience working with autistic teens and/or other developmental disabilities
  • Comfortable supporting campers with basic self-care tasks (if required)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and environments
  • Comfortable swimming and supporting campers in the water
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Clear Criminal Record Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • Clear Child Intervention Record Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • "No Holds" Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training provided during orientation

** As these positions are funded through the Canada Summer Job Grant, applicants are required to:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment; legally entitled to work in Canada

Rate: $24/hour

Dates of employment: May 21, 2024 to August 20, 2024

May 21 to June 28: Planning and preparing for camp, conducting camp intakes, and communicating with families; final week of preparation before the campers arrive, providing aide training (35 hours/week)

July 2 to August 16: Lead camp programs, supporting campers, staff, and volunteers (40 hours/week)

August 19 & 20: Final paperwork, staff and volunteer evaluations, cleanup (14 hours)
