Senior Design & Validation Engineer
Position Summary:
This role will report to the Engineering Manager, responsible for acting as the subject matter expert within our Test & Validation team to support the design, test and validation of Skyjack products.
Note: This role will be a 100% on-site in our Guelph location.
Key Accountabilities
- Convert DFMEA requirements to planned DVP activities to reduce design risk.
- Validate design concepts.
- Oversee and develop others.
- Document and communicate findings.
- Continuous improvement / increasing efficiency.
- Develop evaluation methods and apparatus.
- Develop technical documentation required for formal machine certification.
- Interpret requirements to design risk mitigation activities.
- Maintaining and updating data acquisition equipment inventory to ensure the most efficient validation procedures are utilized.
- Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendations for improvement.
- Apply a wide variety of established or modified engineering methods or techniques with considerable independence of action.
- Make sure all the activities are done efficiently without or minimum time lost.
- Help to create, develop DVP schedule to meet the requirements of the cross functional team and the schedule of the project.
- Review all new procedures / work instructions / criteria.
- Help improving 5S.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 8 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Hydraulic Design Engineer, Electrical Design Engineer or Validation Design Engineer in a mobile/heavy equipment or related manufacturing environment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well with a cross functional technical team as well as with manufacturing personnel.
- Engineering calculation and validation experience essential
- Design experience and 3D modeling experience essential
- Effective Communication and technical writing skills essential
- Strong trouble shooting attributes / skills essential.
- Working knowledge of PLC's or other programmable devises an asset
- Experience with data acquisition hardware / software (LabVIEW, Somat) an asset
- Experience with engineering software (MathCad, FEA, CFD, Automation Studio, Matlab Simulink) an asset
- Ability to work effectively in groups and individually with no supervision.
- Be able to train others efficiently.
- Troubleshooting of various design issues in control circuits, electrical and hydraulic systems (able to read / interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics)
- Confident working with instrumentation and measurement tools
- Preference to have hands on experience with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic system validation and development of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic validation plans (DVP)
- Deep understanding of mechanical / electrical / hydraulic systems and design concepts
- Passionate and detailed oriented.
