Year of study: Students having completed at least one year of study.

Notice:
All students applying for student positions at CNL must be returning to full-time studies upon completion of their work term. Exceptions will be made for students who require a work term in order to graduate. The employment period generally runs from the beginning of September to the end of December (for a 4 month work term).

Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC) which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security".

Engineering Student
The Engineering Student will work in the Operations Support Specialists Section of the Licensed Nuclear Facilities Branch and will report directly to the Manager of the Operations Support Specialists within the S&T Facilities Operations Division. The student will support the operations activities of the Licensed Nuclear Facilities which includes Universal Hot Cells (UC), Fuels and Materials Cells (FMC), Tritium Facility (TF), Recycled Fuel Fabrication Facility (RFFL), Nuclear Fuel Fabrication Facility and ZED-2 Nuclear Reactor. The Engineering Student will work with Engineering Operations Specialists to provide technical support, execute facility improvements, perform commercial & internal projects support, system health monitoring, aging management, obsolescence management, maintenance, and process systems support. The candidate will also assist in the general operations of the Facility with supervision and oversight in their project areas.

The successful candidate will begin with a focus on implementing changes in the Facilities thus acquiring technical expertise in the design and operation of Facility systems. This position offers an excellent opportunity for career development while working on a variety of systems, small and large projects and several new programs and initiatives. The position offers unique challenges, exposure to commissioning activities, operating systems problem solving and design interface activities.

What you will be doing!
• Job shadowing with an Engineering mentor to assist on projects.
• Interact with facility staff to update procedures.
• Work on assigned projects in the Nuclear Facilities to effect improvements.
• Assist in troubleshooting emergent breakdowns of equipment within the facilities.
• Assist in the procurement of various system components to meet QA & industry standards.

What we are looking for:
• Must be currently enrolled in 1st year or higher in any University Engineering program
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
• Radiation Protection group 4 training (will be given by CNL)
