Overview:

Responsible for management and oversight of model risk governance and operation teams to create, manage and enforce policy and procedures based on regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Ensures efficient execution of the model risk management program through implementation and execution of workflows and project management, model meta data management and reporting.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Manage a large team of professionals (including contractors and vendors) responsible for model governance and model operations.
  • Create, manage, execute, monitor and update processes and plans for all validation and production governance activities and to ensure appropriate controls, quality assurance, and criteria are enforced for all materials consumed by (Model Risk Management Department) MRMD from the 1st line.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate model risk management policy, procedure and guidelines ensuring that they reflect industry best practices and align with prevailing regulatory guidance.
  • Collaborate closely with Model Validation teams to ensure understanding and effective implementation of the model risk management program.
  • Conduct enterprise-wide model inventory and attestation processes to ensure comprehensive, complete and accurate inventory of models, findings and performance.
  • Create and maintain relevant, effective and comprehensive model risk materials to ensure stakeholders at all levels are educated in and aware of roles, responsibilities and risk.
  • Create, manage, and update comprehensive and accurate industry-strength database to capture model metadata, lifecycle components and to build intelligence needed to reduce time required to commence validation activities.
  • Create, execute, and update reporting ensuring that all MRMD documentation meets appropriate quality controls prior to publication; manage and maintain a repository of all final MRMD publications
  • Serve as key point of contact, building strong internal and external relationships including regulatory examiners and auditors.
  • Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilities:

The position requires the ability to plan, organize and supervise work of staff and produce results; serve as a champion of change and innovative solutions; and has the ability to communicate a common vision to others. The position has significant uncertainty with discretionary solutions and heavy latitude. There is a high risk to the organization inherent in position. The incumbent must build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers/outside vendors in a manner that maximizes shareholder return.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

Responsible for multiple direct reports.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 11 years' relevant work experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 15 years' higher education and relevant work experience.

Minimum of 4 years' managerial experience.

Proficient in the use of personal computers including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and industry specific software.

Strong analytical skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills necessary for business partner relationships within and outside organization.

Detail oriented.

Self-motivated.

Education and Experience Preferred:

Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or advanced degree.

Certifications like PRM, FRM, Six Sigma, Certified Scrum Master or Certified Agile Coach

or CFA.

Minimum 15 years' operations experience.

Minimum 10 years' supervisory/ managerial experience.

Knowledge of pertinent Bank systems.

Programming skills including Python for creating automated reports, tasks, and actions

Familiarity with SR 11-7, SR 15-18, SOX, etc.
