What YOU Will Do

Under the supervision of the pre-construction manager, the position holder will be responsible for determining the quantities of materials required for the realization of a potential project and assisting in the preparation of bids with the aim of securing the contract for Pomerleau to undertake construction.

  1. Analyze plans and specifications to have an overall understanding of the project, enabling:
    • Visualization of the scope of work to be performed.
    • Familiarity with the specialties involved in these works.
    • Verification of whether the project includes any specific works.
    • Evaluation of the time required to complete the work while respecting the bid submission deadline.
  2. The junior estimator must check the plans and specifications, ensuring that all required documents for the potential project are obtained (construction drawings, specifications, addendums, bid forms, general and specific conditions, etc.).
  3. Perform the measurement of all quantities of materials required for the construction of the bid-project by following the different sections of the specifications.
  4. Extract quantities in both 2D and 3D using the company's tools and provide detailed quantity surveys.
  5. Attend site visits and ensure the possession of the required personal protective equipment for construction site visits.
  6. Provide the purchasing department with the necessary information for researching prices for certain materials used in the project (special and common purchases).
  7. Analyze changes in addenda issued during the tendering period.
  8. Search for project-specific prices (materials or subcontracted) following the analysis of bid documents.
  9. Contact subcontractors to inquire about their intentions to bid.
  10. Send invitations to subcontractors and, if necessary, provide them with documents related to the involved works and grant them access to the virtual plans room.
  11. Organize received prices in the price folder.
  12. Receive prices from subcontractors and/or suppliers related to their specialty.
  13. Ensure the content of all amounts received from suppliers and subcontractors is accurate and verify their compliance with bid document requirements during compilation and bid closures to determine the lowest compliant bid.
  14. Stay informed about new technologies and construction methods.
What YOU Will Bring

Hold a technical degree in estimation or a bachelor's degree in construction, or possess equivalent experience;

Have relevant experience of 1 to 3 years in estimating commercial and institutional projects for a general construction contractor;

Knowledge of Constructbuy, SAGE, OST, REVIT, BID2WIN, Navisworks, and Autocad will be considered an asset;

Strong skills in reading plans and specifications;

Be flexible regarding schedule (during bid closures);

Be versatile and possess excellent analytical skills;

Have a desire to be involved long-term in an estimation team and be focused on achieving results;

Have the ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines;

Have teamwork skills;

Have a strong sense of organization.
