Job Overview

We are looking for enthusiastic and organized Camp Supervisors, we call them Unit Heads, to join our Summer 2024 camp team. Unit Heads are integral to our summer leadership team and oversee a group of staff and campers within a specific age group. An interest in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) and/or sports and outdoor activities is an asset, but what we are really looking for are candidates with lots of experience working with youth and young adults, who are strong leaders, and who have a genuine love for camp!

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Has extensive experience supervising children in a camp/recreation/educational setting
  • Is team-oriented and collaborative
  • Has experience managing teams
  • Will mentor and assist camp counsellors in providing campers with a fun and safe camp experience
  • Will maintain excellent rapport with staff, campers, and camp families
  • Is understanding of the uniqueness of each camper and staff member and able to find ways to make everyone feel part of the team

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and mentor a group of staff and campers
  • Involvement in operation and delivery of the camp day
  • Train and evaluate counsellors
  • Communicate with counsellors, camp families, instructors, and members of the Leadership Team on an ongoing basis
  • Lead staff meetings
  • Liaise between Leadership Team and counsellors
  • Manage staff and/or camper conduct as needed

Job Requirements:

  • A background or recreation in teaching, recreation, early childhood education, or a related field
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role in camp or related field
  • 3+ years experience working with children ages 4 to 14 in a camp or educational setting
  • Full weekday availability in July and August and select training days in the pre-camp season

Considered an Asset:

  • A background or education in science and technology, outdoor adventure, sports, or a related field
  • Experience making, coding, robotics, electronics, VR, or 2D/3D design

Additional Requirements:

  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C (must have before the start of camp)
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening Check (must have before the start of camp)

Century Private School (11181 Yonge St) : JK - Grade 4 STEAM Camp

Holy Trinity School (11300 Bayview Ave): JK - Grade 4, STEAM Camp

This job may be funded by the Government of Canada's Student Work Placement Program (SWPP). The SWPP program requires that candidates be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or a protected person defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Job Types: Fixed term contract, Seasonal
Contract length: 11 weeks

Pay: $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
