Purpose:

Work with HSSE Manager to meet goals related to project HSE activities, including pre-qualifying, and evaluating project construction Contractor(s), and development/implementation of the project specific HSSE processes and safe work practices, execution of related policies and procedures during the applicable phases of the Project.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the field implementation and management of the HSSE Execution Plan.
  • In conjunction with Contractor(s), and through regular field work, evaluate Project personnel with the HSSE Execution Plan, related procedures and related HSSE instructions, and assist by Coaching and Mentoring as required to ensure understanding.
  • Distribute and present material on HSSE education, promotion, and awareness.
  • Verify, in conjunction with HSSE Manager, WORLEY Project management and Contractor(s) that first aid facilities and emergency procedures are in place.
  • Oversee Contractor(s) responsibilities regarding SDS and provide support as necessary to ensure the accuracy of the SDS management system.
  • Evaluate Contractor's HSSE Project specific programs, attend subsequent pre-mobilization meetings, facilitate, and attend pre-mobilization audits and inspections to ensure compliance with Project HSSE requirements.
  • Participate as required with HSSE Manager, WORLEY Project management or Contractor(s) in scheduled internal or external audits.
  • Provide feedback to participants and management on performance and areas for improvement.
  • Stay Informed and up to date on relevant provincial and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • In conjunction with WORLEY Project management and/or Contractor(s), coordinate thorough investigation of all incidents.
  • Conduct unscheduled and scheduled inspections and focus audits of work areas in conjunction with WORLEY Project management, Contractor(s) and employees, as applicable.
  • Attend daily toolbox and daily pre-task meetings.
  • Review, monitor and update, as required, emergency procedures, in conjunction with HSSE Manager.
  • In conjunction with Contractor(s), ensure the display and dissemination of HSSE material is suitable for HSSE (toolbox) topics or other meetings.
  • Work with Project management and Contractor(s), to encourage hazard identification and reporting as well as immediate reporting of all incidents, including near miss incidents, by all Project personnel.
  • Promote Safety Culture: Act as a champion for safety, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. Engage with employees to promote safety awareness and encourage a proactive approach to HSE.
  • Act as a cross shift with the Project HSSE Manager.

What you will bring

Technical and Industry Experience:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience in a similar role within the industrial construction.
  • Experience and ability to manage team of HSE Professionals.
  • Knowledge :
    • Good knowledge of Ontario provincial and federal OHS Acts and Construction Regulations.
    • Understanding of ON WSIB requirements and applications.
    • Familiarity with industry-specific hazards and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Ability to convey complex HSE concepts in an understandable and engaging manner.
  • Team Player:
    • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work closely with project teams and HSE professionals.
    • At all times, conduct themselves in a professional and cordial manner while working on the Project.
    • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and environments
  • Problem-Solving Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to contribute to incident investigations and risk assessments.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • Relevant industry certifications such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP); National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or other Health and Safety certifications, accreditations or equivalent.
