The Cowichan Valley Arts Council (CVAC) runs 6, week-long, art-themed summer camps for children aged 6 – 12 years. The camps take place in our Studio in the Cowichan Community Centre. Occasional programming may take place at Malahat Nation. Campers work in a variety of mediums. There are games, daily outdoor time & fun activities. The successful candidates must have, or be able to acquire, a clean Criminal Record Check. We are looking for two outgoing, artistic and organized students for the roles of Camp Leader and Camp counsellor to plan, organize and facilitate our kids programs this Summer. Read on if you love to work with children, have some Arts experience, and want to create the best Summer Art Camps in town! Description: Term/Hours: Mid-June – August 2024, Mon – Fri, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, 8 am – 3:30 pm on July 2/24 Wage: $20 per hr. This is a temporary position, dependent upon funding from the Canada Summer Jobs Reporting to the CVAC Educational Coordinator, the successful candidate will: Contribute to camp preparations including programming, schedules, gathering & organizing materials & readying the Studio The Camp Leader may supervise a Camp Counsellor and/or volunteer assistant(s) Take a one-day seminar for Camp Counsellors provided by the Cowichan Valley Regional District at the Cowichan Community Centre Gather necessary documentation (allergies, releases etc.) from parents ; ensure camp staff and volunteers are familiar with the documents ; adjust delivery accordingly. Converse with parents & guardians, sharing or gathering information to improve the campers' experience Support, supervise, instruct & engage with children for the best possible camp experience Organize & deliver an art exhibition on the last day of each, week-long camp May support occasional CVAC Outreach activities at local summer festivals Occasionally post camp highlights to social media Qualifications: Experience supervising & instructing children, especially in the arts; Skills in arts crafts; Excellent communication skills across all age groups First Aid training & Social media literacy are assets Summer Art Camp Counsellor Description: Term/Hours: Mid-June – August 2024, Mon – Fri, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, 8 am – 3:30 pm on July 2/24 Wage: $18 per hr. This is a temporary position, dependent upon funding from the Canada Summer Jobs Reporting to the Camp Leader, the successful candidate will: • Support camp preparations, especially gathering & organizing materials & readying the Studio • Take a one-day seminar for Camp Counsellors provided by the Cowichan Valley Regional District at the Cowichan Community Centre • Under the direction of the Camp Leader, support, supervise, instruct & engage with children for the best possible camp experience • Support the campers' art exhibitions on the last day of each week-long camp • Report any irregularities or concerns to the Camp Leader immediately • Be aware of special circumstances or requirements for individual campers (as per documentation & shared by the Camp Leader); and adjust delivery accordingly • Converse with parents & guardians, referring matters to the Camp Leader for follow up & action • May support occasional program delivery at Malahat Nation • May support occasional CVAC Outreach activities at local summer festivals • Posting CVAC event posters in Downtown Duncan & select locations • Occasional support for CVAC art exhibitions Qualifications: A keen interest in working with children; experience is an asset Experience or studies in art &/or arts & crafts Ability to communicate clearly & respectfully, especially with children #J-18808-Ljbffr
