Tasks:

1. Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, water supply network, and waste and drainage systems
2. Install, repair, and maintain domestic, commercial, or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems
3. Instruct apprentices
4. Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes, and fixtures in walls and floors
5. Cut opening in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings
6. Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, or soldering, brazing, and welding equipment
7. Schedule personnel, tools, and equipment
8. Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges
9. Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing
10. Supervise other workers
11. Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to required shape and size
12. Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites
13. Load, unload, and transport construction materials
14. Clean and pile salvaged materials

• Plumber Red Seal Certificate
• Gas Fitter Red Seal Certificate

Security and safety:

Basic security clearance, Driving record check (abstract)

Work conditions and physical capabilities:

Physically demanding, Bending, crouching, kneeling, Hand-eye co-ordination, Handling heavy loads, Overtime required, Fast-paced environment, Repetitive tasks, Tight deadlines, Weight handling up to 23 kg (50 lbs)

Own tools/equipment:

Tools, Steel-toed safety boots
