Reporting to the Manager, Package & Support Engineering

You will be responsible for the design, testing, and ongoing technical and manufacturing support of sealed sources and transport packages used for the shipment of radioisotopes. You will work closely with the group responsible for the production of sealed radioactive sources used in sterilization applications and the group responsible for the operation and maintenance of transport packages.

Key Responsibilities

Apply a fully proficient and in-depth knowledge of engineering principles and standards. Lead or participate in various aspects of the design, licensing, and manufacture of sealed sources and transport packages. This will include leading the design process, coordinating prototype manufacture, review and approval of engineering drawings, preparation of engineering analysis and calculations, creating test specifications, coordinating and executing testing, compiling results and generating reports, designing or modifying production processes and equipment. Lead mechanical engineering projects and be fully accountable to meet defined budgets, schedules, and functionality requirements, commensurate with your work experience. Stay current with the requirements for and capabilities of Nordion manufacturing processes and equipment for sealed sources in order to respond to queries from operations and other internal customers. Be able to provide task guidance and quality control for activities of other team members.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor degree in Engineering (Mechanical)
Experience: Preferably 5+ years of relevant work experience in mechanical engineering
Certificates: Professional Engineer designation or be eligible for accreditation as a professional engineer.

Skills and Competencies

Technical experience and competencies:

  1. Design and engineering analysis of mechanical systems and components
  2. Design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical or electromechanical equipment used for manufacturing processes
  3. Design, refinement, implementation, and documentation of manufacturing processes

The following aspects would be considered an asset:

  • Prior experience in the nuclear industry, especially in the design, troubleshooting, and testing of equipment operating inside hot cells
  • Familiarity with automated welding, associated technologies, and equipment
  • Some exposure to radiation resistance of materials and components
  • Understanding of various methods and technologies used for leak testing of critical components and systems

Additional Requirements:

  • Occasional overtime to meet project requirements
  • Occasional travel requirements

Training Required: Must complete all required training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker
