Purpose

The Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions within the Company's financial system. The Accountant is also responsible for assisting with the adherence to the book closing process and the financial analysis of results.

Accountabilities

-Adhering to the monthly book closing schedule including the processing of journal entries and analysis of accounts to accurately value accounts on the general ledger
-Producing the monthly financial reporting package
-Responsible for Intercompany billing and reconciliation of Intercompany accounts
-Performing General Ledger account reconciliations
-Responsible for preparing the timely and accurate Balancesheet reconciliations
-Preparing cashflow statements
-Preparing notes to the financial statements
-Providing support to all departments on account coding of expenses
-Providing analysis of significant contracts, complex accounting transactions and new accounting and reporting standards
-Supporting all internal units of the business including utility operations, regulatory and pricing, customer service, procurement and all administrative levels
-Providing analysis of information for users of financial information
-Providing solutions to business issues as well as embracing change as an essential component of performance
-Completing special projects as needed e.g. support for audits, supporting regulatory rate cases
-Support system implementation, maintenance and enhancement activities

Education and Experience

-Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with an emphasis in Accounting required
-Completion or pursuit of a CPA designation
-3-5 years of accounting experience preferred
-Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles required
-Self-starter who is able to plan, organize and take initiative to meet job objectives and deadlines independently
-Ability to work in a team environment
-Excellent interpersonal skills, professional presentation and the ability to communicate effectively.
-Proficient in Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) particularly in Excel required.
-Understanding of regulatory accounting a plus
-Demonstrated ability to analyze financial information and recognize significant variances, trends and irregularities
-Ability to manage multiple projects and set priorities to meet deadlines
-Demonstrated ability to problem solve by grasping the key drivers of issues and thinking through solutions that are effective and efficient
-Ability to establish a high level of confidence with internal personnel and external contacts
