The CPA Western School of Business (CPAWSB) provides an innovative, competency-based learning program to more than 15,000 learners in Western and Northern Canada who are completing their formal education towards certification as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in Canada. CPAWSB delivers the CPA Preparatory Courses and the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) through a combination of online distance learning and face-to-face modules which prepare candidates for the national Common Final Examination (CFE). The School is dedicated to providing excellent service in meeting learners' education and support needs and to working effectively with everyone.

We currently have an opportunity for an 18-month term, Full-Time, Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for reviewing and leading the work of the Intermediate Accountant, Accounts Payable Accountant and the Accounts Receivable Specialist. This position will work directly with the Director of Finance in maintaining the general ledger and sub-ledgers to support financial reports including managing detailed preparations of account reconciliations and facilitating ongoing accounting functions and processes carried out by the team, along with developing team plans.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to:

· Oversee and review day to day accounting functions.

· Ensure all processes for accounts payable and receivable meet acceptable standards of financial controls, specifically approvals for disbursements, setting cheque run schedules, ensuring accounts receivable is reconciled from the database to Great Plains and ensure sundry accounts receivables are collected.

· Manage the School's cash position by effectively monitoring and maintaining a sufficient cash balance to meet disbursement requirements.

· Review GST returns.

· Review the provincial payables and GST reconciliation to ensure timely and accurate reporting to the four western provinces.

· Review and file annual T4A and T2202 Summary and supplemental tax slips.

· Review account reconciliations monthly and quarterly working papers, and annual reports, as requested by the Director of Finance.

· Assist in interim and annual audit.

· Monitor accounting and information processes and procedures within the Financial Administration Team and identify areas for improvement, particularly where performance standards are not being met.

· Act as a financial liaison to other departments and respond to requests for information and/or analyses, as needed.

· Manage direct reports by actively participating in performance management tasks such as goal setting, performance review, and vacation approvals.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

· Conduct an annual review of the personal information being collected, the reasons for such collection, assessing whether the type of personal information being collected is necessary and the minimum amount required for the identified purpose(s), and reviewing who has access to personal information.

· Ensure privacy measures are integrated into team operational activities in accordance with the School's Privacy Policy, ensuring team compliance with the School's information management policies and practices, and coordinating with the School's privacy officer as needed.

Knowledge & Experience Required

Include but are not limited to:

· A minimum of 3 years practical experience in accounting including GL work, account reconciliations and financial analysis.

· A minimum of 2-3 years of leading and managing a team.

· A professional accounting designation CPA is required.

· Proficiency in working with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Outlook, advanced skills in Excel, and the use of databases; proficiency in the use of Great Plains Dynamics is desired.

· Previous accounting experience with a non-profit organization, is desired.

Skills & Abilities

· Strong technical understanding of accounting standards and the application to general ledger and sub-ledgers, including resolving reconciling items in a timely manner.

· Demonstrated strong qualitative, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to sort through a magnitude of information and derive relevant and useful information.

· Ability to manage confidential information and or issues using discretion and judgement.

· Demonstrates effective communication skills, including oral, written and presentation abilities.

· Ability to effectively manage and support a team, by encouraging and promoting a culture of openness while building positive working relationships both internally and externally.

· Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.

The salary range for this role is $71,600 to $107,400. The School offers the ability to a hybrid work model. The CPAWSB finance team is based primarily in Edmonton, Alberta. Preference will be given to candidates located in Edmonton. If based outside of Edmonton, the successful candidate will be required to travel to Edmonton or other CPAWSB offices from time to time, or as required.
