Responsibilities

What your day will look like

  1. Field Activities
  • Complete environmental field activities on Phase I and II environmental site assessments (ESAs) and hydrogeological assessments, soil and groundwater sampling, surface water and sediment sampling, soil vapour/indoor air sampling, designated substances/hazardous materials and remediation projects.
  • Comply with applicable health and safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Coordinate with laboratories, clients, subcontractors, third-party stakeholders.
  • Compile and analyse data including: data tables, borehole logs, test pit logs, GIS/CAD, spreadsheet calculations, figures.
  • Occasionally assist in report writing and preparation of technical memos, letters, reports and proposals.
  • Coordinate and complete designated hazardous substance surveys including asbestos and lead sampling and assist in air emissions testing programs.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain project specific equipment.
  • Ability to work remotely for up to two weeks when required.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • Ability to work alone in the field with guided direction or partial supervision.
  • Assist project managers, engineers, environmental scientists and others on a variety of multidisciplinary design teams (including project engineers, planners, biologists, technologists).

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  1. A diploma in environmental or civil engineering technology, degree in environmental sciences, degree in engineering, or a related environmental field.
  2. Valid Driver's License.
  3. Entry level to 2 years of experience in environmental consulting will be an asset.
  4. Strong desire to learn.
  5. Strong work ethic with genuine interest in environmental programs and field work.
Experience

Knowledge in several of the following disciplines:

  • Field procedures relating to environmental investigations, contracting/construction, geology, hydrogeology, basic chemistry, geotechnical concerns, remediation engineering, site characterization, waste management, landfill design, health and safety.
  • Experience working around heavy equipment, including drill rigs and excavators.
  • Knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation and policies, including Ontario Regulations 153/04 and 406/19.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Data compilation, interpretation and report writing.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products.
