Registered Nurse - Crisis Critical Care Treatment Unit 3

CCC-3 is an exciting inpatient service within the Crisis and Critical Care (CCC) program at CAMH and is seeking a full-time, permanent Registered Nurse to join the team. CCC-3 is a 25 bed unit that provides support to clients who are 18+ experiencing the acute phase of a mental and/or addictions disorder. As a member of the inter-professional team, you will provide holistic client-centred psychiatric nursing care. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; participate in reflective practice sessions; facilitate group programming on the unit; provide mentorship and supervision to students and participate in the research activities for the program.

Successful candidates are well supported by unit leadership team, the Advance Practice Clinical Leader and Manager, during their orientation. Unit orientation focuses on developing and refining the knowledge and skills needed to work safely and effectively on an acute general psychiatric unit. Staff are expected to practice safely and in accordance to the Practice Standards outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and Canadian Standards of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (CFMHN). CCC-3 is a great place to practice, learn and grow.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills with clients, families and the interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate competency in monitoring, assessment and documentation for:
    • Mental health and substance-related disorders
    • Trauma-responsive behaviours
    • Mental status and physical health assessments
    • Client response to pharmaceutical interventions
  • Demonstrate motivation to develop knowledge and skills of trauma-informed care, culturally competent care, crisis intervention, mental health and addiction diagnoses and treatment modalities

This position requires 12-hour day, evening, night and weekend rotations. This position is located at the Queen Street Site.

  • Be registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is required
  • Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a BSCN and/or CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
  • Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions is an asset
  • Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem solving skills are required
  • Computer literacy is required
  • Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
