Sessional Lecturer: Science Policy (VIC302H1S) Victoria College Program: Science, Technology, & Society VIC302H1S Science Policy - The course focuses on the impact of policy on science and the development and implementation of science-related policy. Topics include science funding and allocation of resources, policies concerning the technological application of scientific discoveries, commercialization of science, and the factors that shape the choice of science-based policies in such areas as healthcare, urban planning, weapons development, or environmental monitoring. The course will consider various science policy frameworks that define the power relationships between the stakeholders: government science policymakers, research and educational institutions, private firms, social media, and NGOs. Course Modality : In-person, Victoria College campus Teaching Assistant: There is no TA support PhD in a relevant field (e.g., philosophy of science) Expertise in science policy and related issues of ethics, diversity, and inclusion as demonstrated by a combination of scholarship, publications, and experience within and beyond university contexts Excellence in undergraduate teaching as shown by previous experience and evaluations teaching evaluations, proposed course outline This position is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902, Unit 2 Collective Agreement.
