Reporting to the Executive Director, Salsa in Toronto Festival, and working alongside senior members of the Special Events Team, the successful candidate will support and join a dedicated team of special event professionals to help produce and professionally execute various new media production projects (for broadcast, online and social media) related to the annual Salsa in Toronto Festival. The individual will gain direct hands-on experience in a positive and encouraging workplace and will acquire valuable career-related work experience. This is an 8 week term position ending no later than August 30th, 2024.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the production of creative content for multiple platforms across Canada including linear and digital platforms
  • Participate in script and story development sessions with senior personnel in relation to the Salsa in Toronto Festival and other multi-cultural events
  • Provide assistance to all Festival production team in studio and in the field
  • Coordinate with Producers/Editors to obtain images, sound bites, videos from the Festival and other live events to be used for pre- and post-Festival promotional purposes
  • Provide creative and technical support to aid in the successful completion of a project
  • Ensure technical quality of finished product
  • Assist in the preparation, execution, and wrap-up of the Salsa in Toronto Festival and other live cultural events
  • Assist with live and pre-recorded interviews of Festival participants and performers
  • Provide post and technical support to the editor's lab during the editing and post-production of videos filmed during the Festival
  • Assume other duties as required

Required Skills

  • Experience on non-linear editing/Matrox & Avid DV/Express
  • Working knowledge of Avid editor system, Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator & Premier based systems.
  • Strong understanding of PC computers, including MAC, Unix and NT
  • A good understanding of post-production workflow
  • Ability to apply creative conceptual skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong initiative and self-motivated
  • Ability to work under the pressures of tight deadlines and multitask
  • Strong written and oral skills with a good command of the English Language, Spanish is an asset
  • Excellent team player with initiative to complete individual duties and assist in other areas where required

Qualifications

  • Media Production Degree (or in progress ) and or a minimum 1-year related experience
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2. Please note: Student or work visa status do not qualify.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment. Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
