Job Information

The Public Health Nurse, Sexual Health Outreach Specialist provides public health and case management services in accordance with the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer (OCHO), the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) and the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut to ensure clients who are at high risk of contracting sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections have access to timely, professional, and sustainable services required to maintain optimal sexual health and wellbeing.

As the Public Health Nurse, Sexual Health Outreach Specialist you will provide and supervise comprehensive sexual health programs to at risk populations; that includes screening, surveillance, contact tracing, treatment, education, and counseling to individuals and populations at risk of sexually transmitted infections and blood borne pathogens within the context of a private clinic setting. You will provide direct nursing care to clients in a collaborative interdisciplinary approach to care, utilizing a problem solving and critical thinking approach, in accordance with the NWT Community Health Core Service Standards Protocols and following clinical practice guidelines to facilitate the quality care of clients.

The current schedule for this position is 0.8 FTE. Clinic Hours are Monday – Friday, 1PM – 9PM and Saturday 9AM – 3PM. The successful incumbent would be expected to work 6 hours per day four weekdays per week and Saturdays.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
A Nursing Degree, and two (2) years of nursing experience in a Primary Care setting, ER, or within a Community Health Centre or Public Health Unit.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
