Base Location: Flexible Scotland, however we will need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around the North of Scotland which includes, but is not limited to: Inverness, Elgin, Aberdeen, Lerwick, Dundee, Perth

We are looking for Protection and Control Engineers to join our Distribution Technical Services team, working within any of our 3 regions in the North of Scotland.

Our Technical Services Team is responsible for providing Design and Operational Services for our Protection and Control Systems on our Distribution Network up to 33kV, ensuring our network operates safely, reliably and continues to develop in order to meet the needs of our future network. As a critical member of the team you will be involved in capital investment and customer connection projects from concept through detailed design and supporting them during construction and energisation.

Your key responsibilities will be:

– Developing scoping documentation and Main Connections & Protection Diagrams (MC&P).

– Specification of components in the design of P&C schemes such as relays, CTs & VTs and Producing detailed designs including AC/DC schematics.

– Carrying out protection grading studies, producing relay files and settings.

– Producing multicore schedules and termination diagrams for construction.

– Onsite commissioning of protection and control schemes and Onsite protection and control defect investigation.

– Contractor engagement including assessment, verification and approval of engineering design and documentation, ensuring compliance with scope, standards and policy. Witnessing commissioning where required.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

– A high regard for safety with demonstrable experience of risk mitigation.

– A qualification in Electrical Engineering Discipline – a minimum of HNC with relevant experience.

– Previous experience working in design and / or commissioning of power system protection, ideally at a distribution level.

– Operational experience of the Distribution network up to 33kV would be advantageous.

– Knowledge of UK DNO practices and standards and an understanding/appreciation of CDM regulations.
