We have 5 locations across Canada and are currently hiring a Senior Accountant (8-Month Contract) for our head office location in Oakville, Ontario.

Job Overview:

As the Senior Accountant , you will be pivotal in supporting our accounting team to meet operational and reporting deadlines, ensuring compliance, and preparing financial reports and statements. You will work collaboratively with the accounting team and other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and support the company's strategic decision-making processes.

This is a part-time (20 hours/week) 8-month contract position from May 1, 2024 - Jan 31, 2025.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform month end closing activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, inventory reconciliations, and various balance sheet schedules.
  • Prepare the monthly sales summary reports for all salespersons.
  • Calculate the monthly salesperson's commissions and prepare the reports.
  • Complete the monthly reporting package for management and shareholders.
  • Complete the monthly borrowing base reporting and quarterly covenant compliance reporting required by the bank.
  • Complete the monthly sales reporting for Statistics Canada.
  • Provides financial support, including forecasting, budgeting and analyzing variations from budget.
  • Assess the account receivable balances on a monthly basis to determine potential credits holds and review with management.
  • Prepare and file GST/HST tax returns monthly and QST tax returns quarterly.
  • Participate in cash flow planning involving local and foreign currencies (CAD, USD, and EUR).
  • Monitor foreign currency payables and prepare semi-monthly payment summaries for main suppliers.
  • Reconcile monthly intercompany payable and receivable balances.
  • Organize and manage year-end inventory counts for all branches.
  • Prepare and maintain working files for the year-end audit.
  • Provide other departments with ad hoc reports and analysis as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business, or Accounting (CPA not required, but preferred)
  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, SUMIFs, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated and a team player
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to adapt to multiple demands, set priorities and achieve results on a timely basis

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 8 months

Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 20 per week
