Reporting to the Manager, Asset Planning, and System Engineering and is responsible for managing Elexicon Energy's short, medium, and long-term expansions, enhancements, and maintenance plans for Elexicon's station assets, focusing on customer impact, system supply adequacy, system security, reliability, safety, cost, and industry trends. The Supervisor is also responsible for performing load and capacity forecasting for Elexicon by participating in regional planning initiatives and staying abreast of emerging technologies within the industry.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PEOPLE AND TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP
  • Provide day-to-day leadership of the assigned portfolios by setting team goals, objectives, coaching, and handling human resource and work performance objectives.
  • Lead the development of the team and maintain competencies through training, coaching, peer learning, and special project assignments to achieve department and corporate objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to accomplish multiple assignments and deliverables on an on-going, basis.
  • Foster innovation and actively look for new ideas to improve the operation of the unit.

LOAD/ CAPACITY FORECASTING
  • Develop, maintain, and advance Elexicon's demand and capacity forecast models for the entire service territory using engineering and econometric approaches.
  • Participate in Regional Infrastructure Planning (RIP) and Integrated Regional Resource Planning (IRRP) with Hydro One, the IESO, and regional local distribution companies.
  • Evaluate and approve distribution network development applications, including those related to residential, commercial, and industrial projects outlining. Ensure applications comply with relevant zoning bylaws, land use plans, and environmental regulations.
  • Report to enable identification and management of forecast accuracy impacts and month-to-month forecast changes.
  • Foster strong relationships and open communication with various stakeholders, such as Hydro One IESO, including developers, government agencies, community organizations, and the public.
  • Engage in public consultations and meetings to gather input and address concerns related to development projects.
  • Represent Elexicon in infrastructure coordination and/ or utility coordination meetings .
  • Continuously review proposed developments to ensure compliance with Ontario's local and regional planning policies, emphasizing energy conservation and adherence to Ontario's CDM requirements.
  • Utilize data and analytics to assess the impact of development on employment lands and the broader community. Analyze demographic trends and economic indicators to inform planning decisions.
  • Prepare and deliver regular reports to senior management on the status of development applications, key planning issues, and progress towards growth and employment land objectives.
  • Lead a team of professionals in the planning of electrical substations, ensuring they meet Elexicon's operational needs and long-term growth strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, station operations, and external parties) to assess the need for new substations, upgrades, or expansion of existing facilities to support the growing electrical load and maintain grid reliability.
  • Support the development of standards, design/ study guidelines, policies, and procedures for the design, operation, and maintenance of station equipment.
  • Review station condition monitoring, failure, inspection, and maintenance data and participate in the development of Asset Condition Assessment (ACA) and Asset Replacement (ARP) for station assets .
  • Develop robust business cases for replacements, rejuvenation, and maintenance of Elexicon's station assets while ensuring alignment with regulatory and technical standards .
  • Lead the identification and evaluation of suitable locations for new substations or expansions, considering factors such as proximity to load centers, land availability, environmental impact, and future growth projections.
  • Create maintenance strategies and programs for station assets, considering the influence of emerging technologies and grid resilience.
  • Participate in 5, 10, and 15-year true-ups for Hydro One-owned Distribution and Transformer stations.
  • Establish standards, guidelines, processes, and procedures for the efficient replacement, operation, and maintenance of station assets.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in substation technologies, automation, and smart grid solutions to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the electrical distribution network growth.
KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced knowledge of power system concepts along with practical experience on distribution and station-related assets
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis and programming languages such as Python, R, etc.
  • Advanced understanding of load and generation forecasting studies
  • Experience with distribution network reliability standards and reporting requirements
  • Experience in preparing technical reports, regulatory evidence, and presentations as required by the Manager.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong stakeholder and change management skills
  • Experience with power system tools such as CYME, EMTP, etc.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Post-secondary degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario
  • Three (3) to seven (7) years of experience in a utility preferred; direct experience in distribution system planning, and asset management
  • Experience in a supervisory role within asset management, or system planning or design in a transmission or distribution utility or consulting industry
  • Knowledge of Ontario Regulation 22/04.
  • Strong experience in stakeholder engagements
  • Understanding of regulatory submissions such as Distribution System Plan (DSP) and Interrogatory responses
  • Knowledge of utility planning, design, and operation.
  • Knowledge of industry-accepted standards and best practices for Asset Management, such as ISO55001 requirements
  • Experience with budgets and expenditures
  • Strong understanding of enterprise risk management (ERM)
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications and database management
