Duties

The Senior Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of a variety of agricultural equipment, implements, and all-terrain vehicles. This position requires an individual who is well versed in heavy duty or agricultural mechanics. This position requires a high attention to detail, concern for safety, and problem solving ability. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is organized, adaptable, and works well independently.

Intent of the process

Immediate need is for one (1) full-time permanent position

A pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar permanent or temporary positions with different language and security requirements in research centers across Canada.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, they may be considered for acting, indeterminate, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Information you must provide In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
• Red Seal Certified Journeyperson certified as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician or an Agricultural Equipment Technician.

EXPERIENCES
• Experience providing mechanical maintenance, repair, and modifications to heavy and light duty equipment.
• Experience in the operation and maintenance of agricultural equipment, such as but not limited to combines, tractors, and tillage equipment.
• Experience in repairing and overhauling gas/diesel vehicles and equipment.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET EXPERIENCE
• Experience in the maintenance of agricultural research equipment, such as but not limited to plot combines, scale systems and seed and soil processing equipment.
• Experience servicing and maintaining John Deere equipment.
• Experience using a digital work order system, spreadsheets and word processing.

Possession of a valid, class 5 Manitoba driver's license, or another provincial/territorial equivalency.
• Must be physically capable and willing of performing the duties of the position which may include: occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, twisting, reaching, standing for long periods of time and working outdoors for extended periods of time under various weather conditions.
• Ability and willingness to work alone, with proper safety procedures in place.
• Ability and willingness to work with hazardous material.
• Ability and willingness to work overtime.
• Known allergies must be controlled using personal protective equipment and/or medication and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
