AltaGas - Lead Operations Data Engineer

Provide expertise to lead, develop, and maintain optimization on assigned Midstream managed applications (e.g. Aveva Pi) along with related applications and processes in AltaGas operations. In addition to ensuring all applicable governance requirements on structure, reporting, documentation, and training are accurate and maintained in accordance with AltaGas requirements.

You will:
  1. Lead the analysis and evaluation of data collection systems under Operations Technology – including the design, application lifecycle management, and maintenance of those systems including applicable data pipelines (e.g. Aveva Pi (System Explore, Pi AF, Pi Vision)).
  2. Provide guidance and advanced support on PI-System performance optimization, monitoring system health, and installation.
  3. Execute and utilize Engineering precepts to lead advanced applicable system performance optimization, system health and installation, including advanced calculations for facility analytics.
  4. Lead, guide, support, and produce advanced visual analytics, notifications, and reporting tied to operational data and equipment for Midstream.
  5. Lead and support cross-team collaboration with internal departments, project, support, and automation teams to ensure operational data models developed accurately reflect the system.
  6. Develop and evolve cross-system data models reflecting operational data and metadata to empower operational data and analytical initiatives.
  7. Lead training sessions on beginner, intermediate, and advanced sessions assigned Midstream OT applications – including data extraction, display creation, and notification creations as applicable.
  8. Work with various teams to ensure: continuous data integration, quality assurance, and monitoring from collection to storage are functioning and in line with AltaGas data requirements.
  9. Analyze data and identify gaps in the solution, make recommendations for resolving gaps, and monitor results.
  10. Identify, perform, plan, and test version reconciliation/updates to application.
  11. Build, modify, and manage applications and customized reporting as applicable.
You have:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer science, Engineering, information technology, or a related field preferred.

10 years of Oil and gas industry knowledge/experience in relation to data analytics, development integration, application use, and operations technology (OT).

10 years of engineering experience with a strong understanding of process flow and equipment. Ability to apply engineering principles, codes, and standards to identify issues, recommend improvements, and implement solutions.

10 years of knowledge data historian architectures: Inmation, PI, Honeywell PHD, open-source / cloud historians OPC, Matrikon, REST APIs (other on-premises and cloud), AFSDK / PISDK, Lua etc.

7 years of Azure experience, such as Azure Data Explorer, and PowerBI (Visualizations, DAX, Power Query, Data Modeling). Fluent in querying languages such as SQL, Kusto, or other databases.

Technical expertise in developing data integrations, logical and physical data models, data mining, and data warehousing.

Exceptional time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects at once, and adapt to changing priorities.

Results-oriented independent self-starter with a strong ability to take the initiative.
