Job Summary

The Team Lead, Customs Brokerage is responsible for managing daily shift operation workload and work flows for CN's Customs Brokerage team. The position acts as a key resource and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all customs brokerage-related questions, specifically from the Junior and Customs Analysts. The role also manages all communications between customers, carriers, and agents and ensures that work being completed is compliant with government requirements.

Main Responsibilities
Manage Operational Flows

Oversee work flows for all imports and exports across Canada and the US

Manage daily workload for self and team

Receive information from customers related to all modes of transportation (e.g. air, ocean, rail, truck)

Merge data and distribute to appropriate team members

Respond to queries from team members related to information gathered

Determine relevant government requirements for each commodity

Communicate with customers to obtain missing information

Problem-Solving and Decision-Making

Resolve system issues related to electronic communication to customs and other government departments

Resolve all software issues (e.g. Descartes, CERS, ACE, ACI)

Develop corrective actions to resolve issues

Act as SME for all customs brokerage-related issues

Manage Operational Relationships

Establish and maintain positive customer and vendor relationships

Coordinate with internal and external suppliers (e.g. ports, system software vendors)

Arrange deliveries and carry out other logistics-related tasks

Ensure Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) certification is kept up to date

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment and is based on a defined shift (morning, evening). The incumbent must be available to respond to queries during the day and at night.

Requirements
Experience

Customs Brokerage

Between 5 to 7 years of customs brokerage experience in a large organization

o Experience managing people and workflows

o Experience with customs software (e.g. Descartes, CERS, ACE, ACI)

o Experience managing and defining processes

o Experience in the railway industry

o Experience in the trucking cross-border industry

Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

Bachelor's Degree in a related field

Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)

Technical Skills/Knowledge

General Microsoft computer skills

Knowledge of the Customs Act

Knowledge of customs D-Memorandums

Familiar with Advanced Commercial Information (ACI) reporting
