Position Rationale:

Reporting to Foreman, the position of a Dozer / Track Loader Operator is responsible for safe and efficient operation of a dozer or track loader. This Operator will perform duties as assigned to ensure that completed work is delivered according to Volker Stevin Contracting Ltd.'s company policies and procedures, Alberta Occupational Health and Safety, and contract specifications. This position utilizes a dozer's front blade and ripper to assist with installation and backfill of various utilities. This position also applies to track loader operators that utilize a front bucket and rippers to perform similar duties.

Position Accountabilities:
Operate a track dozer or track loader and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
Perform routine daily cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation.
Operate equipment controls to regulate height and angle of a blade or bucket and lower ripper to loosen packed soil to permit grading.
Ensure sound understanding of ground disturbance requirements.
Operate a equipment in successive passes over construction surface to raise or lower materials (loam, clay, pitrun, etc.) to specified grade following markings on grade stakes or hand signals.

Technical Knowledge:
Knowledge of dozer and/or track loader operation and other heavy equipment.
Knowledge of underground utility construction materials, processes, and industry requirements.
Valid Ground Disturbance certificate preferred.
Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
Understanding of DEF systems and operation standards.

Work Environment/Conditions:
Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust.
Must be physically able to lift and carry at least 20 LBS on an occasional basis (example: cleaning tracks of equipment).
Valid Class 5 Operators License; Clean Drivers Abstract (as per Company Policy), preferred.
Must comply with the Company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Possible out of town and weekend work as required.

Qualifications & Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D is preferred.
Class 5 Driver's License with a clean Driver's Abstract (as per Company policy) is preferred.
Preferred minimum 1 - 3 years of experience within the underground utility construction industry.
Minimum 1 - 3 years of experience operating a dozer is required.
Knowledge of underground industry standards, and OH&S requirements.
