Work Arrangements

The Sociology Department in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is inviting applications for three sections of SOCI 1125: Introduction to Sociology starting in the Summer 2024 semester.

Applicants for Summer 2024 must be available to teach on the following days, times and campuses:
Wednesdays 12:30-3:20; Thursdays 12:30-3:20; Fridays 9:30-12:20 all on our New Westminster campus.

Applicants will also be considered for addition to our on-call contract faculty teaching list for teaching in future semesters.

Workload is assigned each year based on available sections.

The Role

The Sociology Department at Douglas College invites applications for a contract faculty position beginning in the Summer 2024 semester.

The successful candidate will have experience teaching Introductory Sociology courses at the post-secondary level. A teaching and research specialization that complements existing departmental strengths. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the sociology of globalization, race and ethnicity, and citizenship and identity.

Responsibilities

You will instruct students, facilitate learning, and evaluate student progress in University Transfer courses that are largely at the first and second year level. You will plan, organize, and manage learning activities and resources, provide academic advice to learners, and maintain quality learner centered instruction.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need

  • MA or PhD in Sociology
  • Demonstrated experience in successful post-secondary teaching
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, excellent communication skills, demonstrated initiative and creativity, evidence of ongoing professional development, and a commitment to teaching excellence
