The Controls Specialist in Innisfail will work as part of the engineering department under the general supervision of the Plant Engineer and Process Superintendent . Works alone or with others to develop and maintain regulatory standards for electrical/controls compliance, electrical software, and electrical drawings. The controls specialist provides leadership, assistance, and training to identify and implement programs to achieve regulatory compliance and company goals.

Your Day to Day:

  • Execute project implementation.
  • Troubleshoot and correct operational issues.
  • Provide on-call support to plant operations for electrical and controls issues.
  • Provide support to processes controlled by Allen-Bradley & Honeywell systems.
  • Execute process control changes on DCS/PLC systems.
  • Manage Allen-Bradley equipment firmware compatibility and upgrades to include PLC's, VFD's, and associated equipment.
  • Manage electrical/controls projects.
  • Manage electrical equipment backups including PLC's, VFD's, and communication protocol networks to include ControlNet, Remote I/O, and EthernetIP
  • Manage electrical predictive maintenance processes.
  • Support the Maintenance & Engineering team as needed.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Associate degree, or Bachelor's degree in automation, process control, computer science, or electrical, mechanical, chemical, or computer engineering or Red Seal Electrician or Instrumentation Tech Diploma
  • Minimum of 3 years working experience
  • Working knowledge of PLC5/SLC500/ControlLogix platforms
  • Experience with Honeywell Experion PKS distributed control system.
  • PowerFlex, Allen-Bradley 1336 VFD troubleshooting experience.
  • Working knowledge of HMI human-machine interface systems such as FactoryTalk SE/ME, Panelview, RSView32, PanelMate
  • Experience with software such as RSLogix 5/500/5000, RSNetworx, RSLinx
  • Design software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks, and ePlan
  • Understand industrial networking and electrical control system concepts (120VAC/24VDC)
  • Develop capital project justification, budgeting, and equipment specifications.
  • Ability to train other skilled trade individuals.
  • Must be able to read/understand electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Must be self-directed and able to work with little or no direct oversight.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Basic data analysis skills
  • Fundamental knowledge of root cause analysis
