Job Title: 1st or 2nd Class Power Engineer
Location: Cold Lake, Alberta (candidate must be local)
Duration: 1 Year (with possibility of extension)
About the Role:
Our client, a leading operator in the oil and gas industry, is seeking an experienced minimum 2nd Class Power Engineer to join their team in Cold Lake, AB. This role is ideal for a safety-focused professional with strong technical expertise in power generation, steam systems, and industrial plant operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Power Generation & Distribution
- Operate and maintain electrical, steam, and mechanical systems, including boilers, turbines, compressors, and generators.
- Monitor and troubleshoot power generation and distribution systems to ensure reliable performance and maximum uptime.
- Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on all power equipment in accordance with company standards.
- Manage and optimize power distribution to various systems across the facility, ensuring continuous and uninterrupted operations.
Boiler Operations
- Oversee the operation of steam boilers, including startup, shutdown, and operational adjustments.
- Ensure proper fuel usage, water treatment, and combustion efficiency.
- Maintain and troubleshoot steam systems to optimize performance and prevent downtime.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all company safety policies and regulatory requirements (ASME, CSA, TSSA, etc.).
- Conduct safety checks, audits, and risk assessments on power systems and equipment.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all operations.
Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement
- Diagnose and resolve equipment and system issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to resolve complex technical challenges.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance system reliability and performance.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Prepare regular reports on system performance and maintenance activities.
- Support the development of maintenance schedules and budgets.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of power systems.
- Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians.
Qualifications:
- Valid Alberta 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate (ABSA-recognized).
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in an industrial environment (oil & gas, petrochemical, or power generation preferred).
- Experience in leadership
- Proven experience with high-pressure steam boilers, turbines, compressors, and electrical systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with knowledge of power generation and steam systems.
- Proficiency with computer-based control and monitoring systems.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Additional Details:
- This role requires that you are local as no camp or travel is provided.
- Contract role with opportunity for extension.
