Job Summary:

The HSE Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management at TYROD. This includes the supervision of HSE practices, as well as the development, implementation, and compliance of HSE programs and processes. The HSE manager ensures that all Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) rules and guidelines are followed, promoting a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assessing, facilitating, and evaluating injury prevention initiatives, environmental safety practices, and occupational health and safety measures. The HSE Manager will also play a key role in the implementation and consultation of safety policies.

Responsibilities:

Safety Culture & Leadership

Promote a positive safety culture and ensure that health and safety are prioritized across all business units.

Hold all employees accountable for safe work practices and ensure that these practices and procedures are understood and consistently followed.

Provide leadership, support, and strategic direction to the HSE team.

Mentor employees in HSE practices in federal, provincial, local, and client safety regulations to ensure organizational compliance.

Program & Policy Development

Develop, implement, and manage safety programs, policies, procedures, and training initiatives, including safety orientations.

Proactively evaluate, identify, and implement strategic and operational work process improvements within the HSE department, including standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Develop and manage the Safety Improvement Plan, ensuring alignment with TYROD's objectives.

Reporting & Incident Management

Prepare and deliver weekly, monthly, and quarterly HSE performance reports for internal and external clients.

Ensure action is taken to celebrate success and address areas of concern based on statistical and trending analysis.

Oversee the accuracy of safety and incident records and review Incident Investigation reports.

Lead and participate in investigations for medium and high-risk incidents or refusals to work and organize reviews of those investigations.

Provide training on incident investigations and ensure consistency in incident reporting.

Compliance & Audits

Lead initiatives to obtain COR Certification and oversee both external and internal COR audits.

Conduct work area audits and inspections, reviewing findings to identify trends and provide recommendations to leadership.

Lead the annual health and safety program audit to evaluate the effectiveness of the company's occupational health and safety programs.

Oversee the development of annual health and safety plans, based on hazard assessments, audits, legislative changes, and best practices.

Health & Wellness Support

Support and promote occupational health, wellness, and safety initiatives.

Coordinate with Human Resources to manage return-to-work programs, working closely with employees, supervisors, and insurance companies to ensure a safe and healthy transition back to work.

Team Development & Budget Management

Assess, coach, develop, and mentor HSE personnel.

Develop and manage the HSE department's budget, as well as the occupational health and safety budget per project.

Act as a resource or serve as a member of the Health and Safety Committee, providing information and responses on behalf of the company.

Additional Duties

Monitor, amend, and update the EWR's Health and Safety Handbook.

Perform other related duties as required.

Skills & Abilities:

Leadership & Team Management: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage HSE personnel, fostering a positive and safety-focused work environment.

Knowledge of Safety Regulations: In-depth understanding of federal, provincial, and local health, safety, and environmental regulations and the ability to ensure compliance.

Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Strong skills in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks, as well as implementing effective safety protocols to minimize hazards.

Strategic Planning: Experience in developing and executing long-term HSE strategies, including creating and implementing safety programs and process improvements.

Incident Management: Proficient in leading incident investigations, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

Training & Development: Skilled in developing, delivering, and evaluating safety training programs for various employee levels, ensuring clarity and effectiveness.

Health & Wellness Awareness : Understanding of occupational health and wellness initiatives and the ability to promote and manage related programs.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.

Certifications:

Certified Health and Safety Professional (CHSP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred.

Experience:

Several years (typically 5+ years) of progressively responsible experience in a health, safety, and environmental role, including leadership experience.

Experience in a construction, manufacturing, or industrial setting is preferred, especially for large-scale projects.
