The Role:

We're looking for a casual cook support worker to join our team. You'll help out our main cook and fill in when needed, making sure nutritious, tasty meals and snacks are ready for the individuals and families staying in our two shelters.

What You'll Be Doing:

Preparing meals in a safe and clean kitchen
Working with our team to create menus that are healthy, budget-friendly, and appealing
Keeping food prep areas clean and following Food Safe & Fraser Health guidelines
Ordering groceries and ingredients when needed, making sure we're getting the best value
Building positive relationships with local food suppliers and helping us grow our donation network
Staying informed about the changing needs of our clients so our meals reflect who we're serving

What We're Looking For:

Experience cooking for large groups (bonus if it's been in a professional kitchen!)
Food Safe certification (or willing to get it)
Comfortable working with people facing tough life situations - you approach everyone with compassion and respect
Good at managing your time, staying organized, and working independently
Able to help out on short notice and work flexible hours
A Class 5 driver's license
Can pass a criminal record check

Bonus points if you:

Know a thing or two about trauma-informed care
Have experience building menus around Canada's Food Guide
Like being part of a team that's making a real impact in the community

Cedar Strong has been part of the Fraser-East community since 1994, starting out as a safe space for women and children fleeing domestic violence. In 1995, we opened the Jean Scott Transition House, named after a fierce advocate for women's rights and one of the driving forces behind our work. This shelter remains the heart of what we do.

Since then, we've grown into the largest non-profit in the Fraser-East, offering services across four main areas:

Substance Use
Youth & Family Support
Homelessness

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $25.55-$29.26 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:
Hope, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Experience:
cooking: 3 years (required)
