Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Transportation Planner/Technical Manager to join our growing Mobility Advisory (Transportation Planning) team in Ontario. This role sits within the Mobility Global Business Area (GBA) and reports to the Business Unit Leader (BUL) for Mobility Advisory Ontario.

In this senior-level role you will have extensive experience in a range of transportation planning and engineering, public transit (including BRT and LRT), business cases, strategy and major projects. You will have a passion for sharing your knowledge and being an advisor and mentor to your colleagues, building skill sets and capability within the team.

The ideal candidate will also have experience leading consultation programs with stakeholders, agencies, and the public, multi-modal transportation planning and engineering. You should have extensive technical expertise, strong project management and strategic problem-solving skills. You will lead/manage complex, multi-disciplinary, and strategic projects, as well as overseeing detailed technical studies. The range of work includes transportation and transit projects including master plans, transportation infrastructure projects, feasibility studies, as well as transportation economics and equity, among other areas.

You will lead the development and implementation of planning solutions, manage client relationships at the senior management level, and provide oversight and mentorship to a dynamic team of engineers and planners when collaborating on projects.

Role accountabilities:

In this role, you will manage and lead transportation projects, taking charge of supervising the project team while undertaking and overseeing various project tasks. Your responsibilities include providing expert guidance and technical oversight in the development of innovative transportation and transit solutions, ensuring that all work meets the established standards and client expectations. You will act as a subject matter expert, offering your expertise on technical studies and travel demand modeling, which are crucial for delivering high-quality transportation solutions.

Additionally, you will support multi-disciplinary projects by collaborating across Mobility Advisory and other Global Business Areas (GBAs), providing technical reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards. In managing transportation planning projects, your role will encompass network analysis, data analysis, policy analysis, operations analysis, and the development of comprehensive transportation plans and policies. You will also take a lead role in major transit and transportation studies, which involve assessing the need and justification for new transportation projects, analyzing alternatives, and engaging in transportation system and network planning, operations, and the development of transportation master plans. Your work will focus on embracing new mobility choices and sustainable transportation solutions.

Furthermore, staying abreast of emerging trends and technologies in transportation and transit planning and engineering will be essential. You will incorporate new strategies to improve efficiency and sustainability in transportation projects while implementing and monitoring quality control processes to ensure that all deliverables meet the required standards and specifications. Building and maintaining strong business relationships with public and private sector clients will be a key aspect of your role, especially at senior management levels. This involves ensuring alignment with broader goals and supporting business development efforts, such as identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and presenting to prospective clients.

Lastly, staying current with market conditions in Ontario and Eastern Canada, including transportation policies, standards, and trends, will be crucial for your success in this role. Your understanding of these factors will help you guide projects effectively and make informed decisions that align with regional needs and expectations. Through your leadership and expertise, you will contribute significantly to the advancement of transportation and transit initiatives, ensuring that they are forward-thinking and responsive to the evolving demands of the industry.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • Registered Professional Planner (RPP) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) Certification or equivalent
  • 10+ years of relevant planning/engineering experience, including leadership in developing and implementing transportation solutions related to sustainable programs
  • Recognized expert in strategic planning, public transportation systems, and travel forecasting
  • Proven success on various-sized projects, including effective direction of project teams for project execution
  • Strategic problem-solving skills and advanced technical knowledge in transportation planning/engineering
  • Strong professional consulting skills, including project management, client relationship management, and commercial acumen at senior management levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver professional presentations
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines concurrently

Preferred:

  • Experience leading multi-modal transportation master plans for municipal clients
  • Experience winning and leading mid-to-major-sized projects
  • Understanding of Ontario public and private sector client needs and policies

The salary range for this position is $112,000 - $162,000. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
