Here's the job opportunity
As the Manager, Expense Management you will supervise the Expense Management Team in supporting the accounting, budgeting, analyzing, and reporting of the company's operating expenses. Responsibilities also include assisting in the implementation of the general operating expense-related accounting policies under the IFRS accounting standards, supporting expense-related internal controls and reconciliation processes, reviewing expense allocation models, accruals, distributing spending reports and providing variance analysis for budget leaders and senior management.
Some of the key responsibilities of this role are to:
Prepare the monthly production of spending reports for budget leaders and senior management
Prepare and consolidate the analysis of variance explanations and validate or clarify with budget leaders as needed
Prepare board materials with relevant analysis of total company spending as assigned
Lead the annual lunch and learn budget training of the budget tool (TM1) for the budget leaders and their assistants
Support budget leaders and their assistants as assigned in completing the salary model and budget inputs
Prepare the analysis and reporting of the budget for budget leaders and senior management
Support operational accounting of expense-related items including expense allocations
Expense accounting and finance support for business areas where the need for support is complex and frequent
Oversee intercompany accounting and third-party invoicing
Support the Company's expense-related accounting policies and practices are in compliance with current and changes in the accounting standard are adopted as required
Lead and mentor the Expense Management team
Create and follow a formal process of managing team members throughout the year
Assist in the preparation of team members development plans and on-going follow-up
What we are looking for
University degree in business or accounting
Designated CPA or equivalent professional accounting designation recognized in Canada
Life insurance accounting experience in financial and regulatory reporting with minimum of 5 -7 years working experience
Minimum of 3 years' experience in a leadership role overseeing professional staff
Strong analytical skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Proven problem solving, customer service and organizational skills
Proven ability to meet challenges, goals and objectives with enthusiasm, drive, and initiative
Proven ability to help other people make the most of their abilities and recognize their full potential
