The Opportunity:

TOM Capital is a private equity/family office investment firm based in Calgary looking for a new team member that has proven business and investment acumen and is wanting to take on their next challenge.

TOM Capital owns operating businesses across numerous industries and geographies with a team of professionals responsible for strategic development, legal, finance, engineering, and IT. TOM focusses on the capital allocation decisions and the strategic stewardship of its portfolio businesses while also striving to take advantage of related or unrelated growth opportunities. TOM specializes in creative value-generating strategies, tax efficiency, effective governance, legal and financial discipline, and leadership development.

The role of the Associate is to support on-going portfolio operations as well as providing support for the firm's investment processes, in both private capital and public market strategies. The Associate will be part of a small, senior level team that has responsibility for all aspects of the firm's portfolio management and investment processes.

  • Assist TOM's internal platform champions with portfolio company oversight and engagement activities
  • Monitor and review of regular reporting materials including financial and operational aspects of the underlying portfolio companies
  • Assist in the origination and evaluation of new private company investment opportunities
  • Assist in the screening for high quality and special situation public company investment opportunities
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis on prospective investment opportunities, their related industries and peer groups
  • Support the private equity investment transaction process including structuring, drafting letters of interest, conducting due diligence and preparing final documentation

Skills and Experience Required:

10+ years of direct senior-level experience in business leadership in operations, finance, corporate development, investment analysis and/or management consulting. Preference will be for candidates that possess experience with executive, senior level decision making in a corporate environment. Potentially you have been a business owner or partner and understand what it means to make payroll, grow a business, and create successful teams.

Education Required:

Undergraduate degree with preference for an advanced degree / professional accreditation (CFA, MBA, CPA, CBV, P. Eng.).
