We are looking for a Power BI Developer for a 6-month contract with possible extensions, in Calgary, Alberta. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

This is an on-site position with a requirement to work in-person at the office in downtown Calgary. 40 hours per week.

Role Description

We're looking for a Power BI Developer with a strong data background and experience in the oil and gas industry. You'll play a key role in developing analytical solutions that support operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and planning within the engineering group.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex data challenges, building meaningful visualizations, and contributing to a modern cloud-based data platform on Microsoft Azure.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who works well independently and in a team. Comfortable navigating ambiguity and proposing structured solutions.

Responsibilities

• Build Power BI dashboards and reports tailored to oil and gas (e.g., production volumes, cost tracking, asset performance).
• Use Power Query (M Language) and DAX to analyze large datasets.
• Partner with business stakeholders in operations and engineering.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure solutions align with governance and architecture standards

Required Skills and Experience

• 5+ years of experience in a similar role
• Experience with oil and gas processes and systems.
• Strong experience building end-to-end solutions with Power BI.
• Proficiency in DAX, Power Query (M), and data visualization best practices.
• Understanding of data warehousing, data modeling, and performance tuning in power bi
• Experience with Azure services, including Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure Analysis Services, Data Lake

Desired Skills and Experience

• Designing tabular models for Azure Analysis Services.
• Experience with short- and long-range planning
• Familiarity with Report Builder, Azure DevOps, and SDLC best practices.
• REST API integration experience for connecting to external data systems.
• Experience with Power Apps and Power Automate is nice to have.
• Understanding of Azure resource security (e.g., Key Vault, Elastic Pools) is nice to have.
