Building Better. MODUS Structures Inc. is an experienced prefabricated building design and construction company, based in Crossfield, Alberta. Established in 2004, MODUS has successfully provided innovative and cost-effective building solutions to the educational, commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional sectors. Operating in two manufacturing facilities totaling 200,000 sq. ft. of insulated and heated workspace, the MODUS team works to design, construct and deliver building projects faster and more cost-effective than traditional site-build methods.

Role Description

Reporting to the Director - Product Innovations, Design & Engineering, the Senior Design and Drafting Technologist will prepare engineering designs, drawings, and related technical information, providing technical support and coordination to various internal departments, professional consultants, and clients.

Location:

This role is office based at our 135,000 square feet manufacturing facility 20 minutes North of Calgary in Crossfield, Alberta, strategically located near a High Load Corridor which allows us to transport loads up to 9 meters high to many parts of Alberta, Saskatchewan, BC, and the United States. Our employees live in Calgary, Airdrie and surrounding communities.

Responsibilities

  • Produce shop drawings for the fabrication of modular buildings in MODUS Plants
  • Meet design and drafting schedules and deadlines for assigned projects
  • Investigate and incorporate all relevant Building Code and Standards requirements into the design documentation required for the assigned projects
  • Compile written specifications, assembly instructions and other informational documents
  • Provide drawing and illustration support to sales and marketing department. Provide technical support to various departments
  • Coordinate and communicate with internal teams and external consultants, contractors and clients as required to provide technical assistance and guidance as required
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal agencies
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior per Modus ethical standards, or the Code of Ethics of the Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET), whichever is most stringent
  • Train and mentor design and drafting staff

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in structural, small commercial or residential experience.
  • Modular Building experience is an asset
  • Diploma or Degree in Architecture, Architectural Tehnology, Civil Engineering Technology or related field
  • Intermediate or higher ability to utilize software such as AutoCAD, REVIT and Sketch-up as well as the ability to create BIM and 3D design sketches and drawing packages
  • Proficient in MS Office including Excel, MS Project and Word and Web-based applications
  • Experience with trades such as but not limited to plumbing and HVAC design will be considered an asset
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organization skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Highly detail oriented and amazing proof-reading skills are a must
  • Excellent ability to prioritize, problem solve and work under tight deadlines in a dynamic fast paced environment, with fluctuating work times
  • Familiarity with BC, AB, SK, MB and National Building Code Requirements and Standards
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization with high levels of integrity, tact and maturity
