Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking a Health, Safety, & Security Advisor to work out of our mill site near Athabasca, Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for reporting to the Health, Safety, and Security (HSS) Manager, providing ongoing medical and technical support for the organization. This role provides immediate response and treatment for team member medical incidents and/or fire and hazmat emergencies, they participate in workplace safety investigations, conduct various testing, provide safety orientations, and conduct safety and security inspections and observations on shift.

Role Responsibilities

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Interact daily with team members and contractors to ensure HSS compliance. Participate in Emergency Response as a shift leader on the mill emergency response team. Monitor fire systems and perform first aid care as needed.

Investigation & Inspection:

  • Participate and provide HSS support in incident / accident investigations. Provide expertise on hazard recognition and coach others in performing field level hazard assessments and field audits. Assist to maintain medical and rescue equipment.

Testing:

  • Administer pre-employment drug screen testing and post-incident and drug and alcohol testing. Conduct routine health assessments. Assist with occupational hygiene compliance testing within the mill, including but not limited to gas detection, mask fit testing and hazard assessments.

Security:

  • Participate in inspections/assessments and audits and observe activities and monitor the physical security of the Mill-Site.

Role Requirements

  • 3 years' experience as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), or Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) licensed with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
  • Candidates with current Advanced First Aid (AFA) certificate or a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta may also be considered.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Strong computer skills.

  • Hazardous Materials experience.
  • Security experience.
  • Experience working in an industrial setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.

Other

  • Regulatory Compliance - knowledge of Alberta OH&S and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Computer Skills - Aptitude with HSS related technology and applications, Microsoft office
  • Plans & Organizes - Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments
  • Communication - Must be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Collaboration - Ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Occupational Health -Knowledge in ergonomics, identifying hazardous agents, risk evaluation, occupational disease prevention, implementing controls and understanding exposure limits
