PATIENT PARTNER

Do you have significant lived experience accessing healthcare services as a patient or caregiver?

We believe that working together can help shape healthcare services for all. Patient Partners are individuals with lived experience as patients, family members, or caregivers. They offer unique perspectives that enhance the quality of programs and services.

We invite you to partner with us. We want to hear your perspectives and learn from your experience and expertise.

Your skillset includes:

  1. Significant experience accessing healthcare services
  2. Comfort speaking openly about your experience
  3. Ability to share your personal experience constructively
  4. Capacity to listen with empathy and curiosity to different perspectives
  5. Availability and readiness to co-create products and services based on multiple sources of evidence, including your own experience and perspective

Patient is used to identify individuals who participate in and benefit from health systems and services as co-producers of health. Depending on the setting, the term may also include clients, residents, community members, carers, and families.

We offer various ways to collaborate, depending on your interests. Options include short- and long-term projects, all benefiting from your insights.

Join a Technical Committee

Patients with recent healthcare experience work alongside care providers, policymakers, and researchers to co-design health standards used by organizations to guide their actions and improvements. Patient Partners contribute their experience and perspective to discussions and decision-making.

Meetings are held sporadically over two years and are conducted in English.

Become a Patient Surveyor

We are currently accepting applications for Indigenous Patient Partners. If interested, please complete the application process linked here: . Someone will reach out to you.

Surveyors review the performance of health organizations against standards of excellence and identify opportunities for improvement. They typically have 3-5 years of experience as Patient Partners and are trained to assess criteria related to people-centered care. Their perspective is crucial in reviews.

Surveys last approximately 4-5 days, can be in person or virtual, and are conducted in multiple languages depending on the organization and location.

Become a Leading Practices Reviewer

A Leading Practice is a demonstrated, positive, people-centered, safe, and efficient approach used by health and social service organizations. Organizations can submit their programs for review, which is conducted virtually in English by field experts, including patients like you.
