DGA Careers is pleased to be assisting CHES Special Risk Inc. in their search for a Senior Vice President. We are searching for a dynamic and entrepreneurial leader to oversee its Quebec operations. This is a unique opportunity to take on a key leadership role with one of the top-performing MGAs in Canada.
About the Role
CHES is seeking a seasoned underwriting professional to lead its Quebec office. The successful candidate will be part of the executive committee, will lead a team of experienced underwriters, and drive growth through strong broker partnerships and sound underwriting judgment. This role blends strategic oversight with hands-on production and offers a pathway to further professional growth opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory & Compliance Leadership
- Hold and maintain a current AMF commercial license and be prepared to apply for Corporate AMF license approval within 3 months.
- Lead the office's compliance efforts, including corporate licensing and OQLF requirements
- Serve as a Director of the Corporation
- Underwriting & Portfolio Management
- Oversee underwriting strategy across the SME commercial book
- Provide underwriting direction and insights rooted in data and portfolio analytics
- Ensure best-in-class service delivery, including 24-hour turnaround on broker quotes
- Team Development & Collaboration
- Inspire and direct a high-performing underwriting team
- Foster a collaborative and positive office culture aligned with CHES's "People First" philosophy
- Support the recruitment and development of additional talent as the office grows
- Broker Relations & Market Engagement
- Conduct regular broker visits to build and deepen relationships
- Drive production to meet and exceed premium targets
- Represent CHES in London market negotiations with Lloyd's brokers and syndicates
- Strategic Growth & Succession Planning
- Positively challenge leadership to drive operational efficiencies and profitable growth
- Take on a pivotal leadership role with the opportunity to shape the future direction of the organization.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 10 years of commercial P&C underwriting experience
- Leadership experience or strong leadership potential
- Fully licensed with AMF (commercial lines)
- CIP or FCIP designation (or in progress)
- Bilingual (French/English) with strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Results-driven, service-oriented, and analytically minded
- Motivated to lead, build, and grow a dynamic Quebec-based team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced MGA environment with national and international exposure
