POSITION OVERVIEW

Waypoint is seeking a Claims Assistant to provide crucial support for active claims within established authority limits. Reporting to the Claims Manager, the Claims Assistant will be instrumental in managing the claims process, ensuring timely and accurate resolution, and maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders. In addition, the Claims Assistant will work closely with the Commercial Insurance Risk Advisors to assist with claim advocacy and follows ups, along with reviewing wordings and provide general information on various policy terms. This role presents an excellent opportunity to gain expertise in the insurance industry and contribute to the success of our claims operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Claims Documentation

  • Answer and direct phone calls to appropriate personnel within the claims department, ensuring prompt and efficient handling of inquiries.
  • Review, document, and update all insurer claims to ensure accuracy and completeness of information, adhering to company protocols.
  • Initiate new claims, assign adjusters as necessary, and follow established procedures and guidelines to facilitate effective claims processing.
  • Manage claims files, including opening, closing, and maintaining documentation in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Respond to and provide peer review on claim-related inquiries from Waypoint staff, offering support and guidance as needed.
  • Collaborate with external adjusters, insurers, and contractors to facilitate the claims process, ensuring efficient communication and resolution.
  • Cultivate and maintain trust-based relationships with policyholders, claimants, and service providers to support effective claims management.

Compliance & Regulations

  • Stay informed about industry compliance and claims regulations, ensuring adherence to relevant standards and guidelines.
  • Assist in the reconciliation of company bordereau payments, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of auto, personal lines, and commercial lines insurance products to support effective claims handling.
  • Perform miscellaneous clerical and service duties as assigned by the Claims Manager, contributing to the overall efficiency of the claims department.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 1 year of insurance-related experience, with preference for Commercial Insurance experience and a strong understanding of claims processes and procedures.
  • An insurance license is considered an asset; willingness to obtain if necessary.
  • Background in handling auto claims is preferred, demonstrating familiarity with relevant regulations and practices.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills and sound judgment, enabling effective decision-making in complex claim situations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting purposes; familiarity with Epic software is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented approach, with strong investigative skills to uncover relevant information and assess claim validity.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively, maintaining efficiency and productivity in a fast-paced environment.
