Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a dynamic, passionate, self-starter to join our growing Category & Insights team as the Category Development Advisor. Reporting to the Director, Category & Insights Strategy, the Category Development Advisor will work as vendor advisor for Walmart in a leading OTC category, as well as work internally on category development strategies for key categories & brands. Responsibilities:

External - Walmart Category Advisor - 40%

  • Act as an external consultant to Walmart as a trusted and expert advisor to the Category
  • Work closely with the Walmart Category Manager(s) leading the annual modular relay process & category review for both National & Quebec
  • Identify opportunities & category strategies by analyzing market and account specific data to determine paths to growth for Category for Walmart
  • Present professional, fact-based recommendations and solutions to Walmart senior leadership
  • Recommend optimal assortment, positioning and pricing strategies by supporting and driving effective space to sales analysis for all products and segments in the category
  • Work with Walmart Private Label team to identify opportunities as it pertains to Category strategy
  • Prepare & deliver weekly reports, quarterly category deep dives, ongoing projects and ad hoc work specified by the Walmart Category Manager(s)

Internal - Category & Insights - 60%

  • Develop insights & solutions to grow the size and value of MCP assigned categories
  • Conduct channel specific deep dives to develop unbiased category recommendations including planogram development strategies & optimization
  • Recommend Gold Standard merchandising strategies for strategic MCP categories when needed
  • Partner with Walmart for category validation opportunities
  • Insights analysis & category story development
  • Contribute to the Quarterly Retailer Landscape that keeps our partners informed on economic & retailer sentiment in Canada
  • Additional category & insights ad hoc requests and projects as needed

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary education with an emphasis on business/marketing or related field
  • 2+ years of experience within CPG in category management, shopper insights or related field
  • Previous experience as a category captain/advisor on a major National Retailer or Walmart an asset
  • Prior experience analyzing retailer data, presenting key findings and recommendations across various levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of Category Management principles and tools
  • Proficient in the use of syndicated & retailer data (Nielsen, Retail Link)
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of JDA Prospace or other space planning software an asset
  • Ability to multi-task on several projects effectively
  • Self-starter, critical thinker, detail oriented, deadline driven
