Our client, an innovative infrastructure construction firm in Vancouver, BC, with a strong track record of delivering major projects such as the Broadway Subway and Surrey-Langley SkyTrain, is seeking a Heavy Civil Estimator to support the preconstruction and bidding process for large-scale civil infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including roads, bridges, and transit infrastructure.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive bid packages.
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Participate in quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with project managers and field teams to develop construction methodologies and pricing strategies.
- Track historical cost data and maintain estimating databases and tools.
- Assist in preparing bid proposals, scope breakdowns, and value engineering options.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience in estimating heavy civil projects (infrastructure, transit, roads, or utilities).
- Strong understanding of civil construction techniques, materials, and sequencing.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid, InEight, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- A diploma or degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred.
