Position Scope
Reporting to the President & CEO, the VP of Engineering will lead the product development team and serve as an integral member of the executive management team. The role involves developing and implementing the company's strategic direction as it enters a phase of significant growth and launches new products. The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary teams across diverse geographies, demonstrating cross-functional expertise and leadership within the development domain. The primary objective is to cultivate an environment that attracts, deploys, and retains resources necessary to develop valuable products aligned with the company's strategic goals.
Functional Tasks
- Align the Engineering team's activities with company goals, strategic direction, and core values around innovation, customers, and people.
- Provide overall leadership in Engineering to achieve corporate milestones.
- Lead the multi-disciplinary (HW, SW, QA) product development team, including planning, recruiting, setting objectives, and fostering career development.
- Oversee/manage outsourced suppliers in North America and offshore.
- Collaborate with the CEO, CTO, and Product Management to define and execute the product roadmap, establishing key performance indicators for development progress and strategic decisions.
- Lead planning and execution of product development to ensure on-time delivery, quality, cost-effectiveness, and maintainable designs.
- Ensure operational milestones are met timely, with high quality and within cost objectives, with regular reporting.
- Maintain awareness of technological trends relevant to customer needs.
- Build strong relationships within the company and with technical partners and customers to achieve strategic goals.
- Manage R&D centers of excellence, guiding immediate customer demands and long-term product directions.
- Develop operational policies, procedures, and practices related to customer service, quality, product development, and project management.
- Participate actively as a member of the Executive Team in shaping the company's vision, strategy, and product development goals.
Preferred Experience / Education
The ideal candidate will have over a decade of varied and progressive experience in product and system development, characterized by:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
- At least 15 years of experience in large-scale systems (hardware and embedded software) design and development, with success in similar leadership roles. Emphasis on software development with knowledge of Cloud Computing, Social Networking, and trends in the broadcast industry.
- Entrepreneurial experience in scaling a company from $25M to $100M, with understanding of delivering both standard products and customized solutions to large enterprise clients and service providers.
- Experience working in early-stage environments with an entrepreneurial, customer-centric approach.
- Experience in international markets, system integration, manufacturing (outsourcing), and project management.
- Proven success in managing aggressive product development cycles in technology-driven organizations.
- Understanding operational challenges of distributed teams and system integration.
- Strong leadership, creativity, and ROI-focused analytical skills, with hands-on implementation experience.
- Experience implementing best practices in operations, quality systems, and engineering with a customer demand focus.
- Ability to motivate and engage highly skilled technical teams and drive organizational change.
- Experience managing outsourced engineering teams across multiple locations.
