Senior Employee Relations Partner

Ottawa, Ontario Canada- Hybrid

Position Summary

The purpose of this role is to provide Employee Relations and Engagement HR support services to Thales managers, while ensuring that Thales employees have a diverse, interesting and motivating experience throughout their careers within the Group. The role will be responsible for the delivery of cyclical HR Campaigns and Projects that are well executed, relevant and educational. Shaping employee experience and engagement to move it from being a process to 'coming alive' as an interactive career-development experience. The role will also conduct investigations and help build a high performing culture.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Acts as a key Employee Relations Partner for the business & HRBPs, advising as appropriate on employee and manager queries

  • Provides advice and consultancy to line managers on people management issues including: Performance Management, Disciplinary, and Grievance

  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) in at least one major specialty within the function, i.e.: E mployee Relations, Investigations, Reductions in Force, HR Compliance

  • Lead the development and delivery of project plans forthe annual HR Campaigns (Check-In's, Salary Review and TalentReview)across multiple BL's and countries. Including the preparation of communication material and developing different types of training material to match the needs of the audience e.g. new managers. Maintaining consistency across the country and proactively monitor progress and act upon it to ensure successful execution of the relevant campaign and deadlines.

  • Works directly with supported managers with a focus on continuous leadership development and enhanced employee engagement while providing proactive outreach and support on a variety of items to include; HR policy interpretation, employee and manager coaching, employee education and training, program related issues including performance management, performance improvement plans, compensation queries, etc.

  • Lead investigations and resolve disciplinarycomplaints. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations, escalatinghigh-riskissues to the appropriate level within the HR organization. Understanding risk and regulatory compliance,advising managers and collaboratingwith Compliance or Legal as needed

  • With a good understanding and experience of employment legislation, support the prompt resolution of employee relations issues for employees and recommend proactive measures to minimize related matters - this includes: handling disputes, escalated disability cases, harassment allegations and investigations, including ensuring that managers and HRBPs are kept well informed of all cases and their status

  • Delivers and provides support for HR programs, activities, policies, procedures and compliance, including: Employee Relations, Onboarding, Leave of Absence, and support functions including MyThales HR Agent and Workday inquiries and support, as well as the creation/maintenance of documentation and content on the intranet (Teams On-Line, Sphere, etc.)

  • Work closely with HR Shared Services teams to ensure the successful delivery and implementation of HR Projects; e.g. campaigns, change activities, systems implementations, etc.

  • Support and maintain consistency for all HR activities, proactively monitor progress, and act as appropriate to ensure successful execution of the relevant campaigns and deadlines

  • Support the Employee Relations Team and the broader HR organization as needed with the day-to-day compliance of policies and queries related to legal cases and investigations

  • Participate as a member of the larger HR team, in collaboration with HRBPs, HR Operations and COE's to pursue and contribute to HR team objectives, projects and improvement initiatives

  • Assist on Special Projects and initiatives as required including; project and change management initiative, communications for HR programs and activities, and provides implementation support for change programs and initiatives.

  • Conducts voluntary employee exit interviews, gathers any relevant information, disseminates gathered information as appropriate while ensuring that the appropriate exit procedures are followed

  • Coach, support and mentor line managers and employees to ensure equitable and consistent interpretation and application of Thales policies, practices and procedures that create and maintain an engaged employee environment, help create the desired local culture, and minimize organizational risk/cost

  • Ensures all appropriate and/or required documentation is properly completed, thorough and is properly memorialized for required retention and recall as necessary

  • As a Senior Employee Relations Partner, will assist and mentor more junior colleagues on complex situations or investigations

  • Representative of the Crisis Management Team

  • Can act as delegate for Director and/or Employee Relations Partners as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study with a minimum of 8+ years of relevant work experience, including experience in Employee Relations, or Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant work experience, including experience in Employee Relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • At least 4 years of experience with relevant Canadian employment standards, practices and human rights legislation

  • At least 4 years of experience leading investigations and resolving disciplinarycomplaints.

  • Demonstrated experience Delivering and providing support for HR programs, activities, policies, procedures and compliance, including: Employee Relations, Onboarding, Leave of Absence, and support functions including ServiceNow and Workday inquiries and support, as well as the creation/maintenance of documentation and content on the intranet (Teams On-Line, Sphere, etc.)

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive and difficult issues professionally and in a confidential manner

  • Prior experience providing informal coaching to individuals at all levels and influence as appropriate to ensure successful outcomes

  • Action oriented individual, who demonstrates high accountability, sound judgment and proven decision making abilities

  • Prior experience working collaboratively with HRBPs, COEs, and customers at all levels, while taking a proactive approach to customer service and building strong professional relationships

  • Possess a sense of accountability and urgency, and the demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize work

  • Strong facilitation and communication skills

Special Position Requirements

Physical Environment: Hybrid work environment (Office and Remote) with a current expectation of at least three (3) days working from within the office each week.

Travel: Anticipated business travel estimated at less than 10% annually, both domestically and internationally.
