Our challenge

We are seeking a talented Java Spark Developer to design, develop, and optimize large-scale data processing solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Apache Spark, Java programming, and data analytics, playing a key role in building scalable data pipelines and analytics platforms.

Additional Information

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Mississauga, ON is CAD $110k - CAD $120k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain Spark-based data processing applications using Java.
  • Design efficient ETL processes to extract, transform, and load large datasets.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and data engineers to implement analytics solutions.
  • Optimize Spark jobs for performance and scalability.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Spark and Java applications.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to best practices.
  • Stay updated with latest trends in big data technologies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience in developing applications with Java.
  • Strong knowledge of Apache Spark (Spark Core, Spark SQL, Spark Streaming).
  • Experience working with big data technologies like Hadoop, HDFS, Hive is a plus.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems concepts.
  • Experience with data serialization formats such as JSON, Avro, Parquet.
  • Knowledge of SQL and data modeling.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred, but not required:

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Familiarity with Spark performance tuning.
  • Knowledge of other big data tools (Kafka, Flink, etc.).
  • Exposure to containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
