NWI Precision is a leader in high-precision machining, specializing in helicopter masts, turbine shafts, engine thrust links, and nuclear pressure vessel components for the aerospace and nuclear industries worldwide. Operating from our 120,000 sq. ft. facility at 9 Fenmar Drive in Toronto.
We are seeking an experienced and energetic Manufacturing Specialist to lead our advanced machine shop operations. You will oversee CNC machining processes, mentor a skilled team of machinists, and ensure compliance with aerospace and nuclear industry standards. Your expertise in cutting tools, CNC programming, simulation software, and continuous improvement will be critical to achieving production goals.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of CNC lathes, drills, grinders, mills, and millturns to maximize efficiency, minimize cycle times, and ensure high-quality output.
- Design and implement machining processes, including tool selection, cutting methodologies, and coolant management, to enhance productivity and precision for aerospace and nuclear components.
- Develop and verify complex toolpaths using Mastercam and Vericut, ensuring error-free machining and compliance with tight tolerances.
- Optimize drilling processes for precision components (e.g., titanium, Inconel) and manage efficient changeovers for high-mix, low-volume production runs.
- Mentor a team of machinists and specialists, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure adherence to aerospace and nuclear quality standards through rigorous inspections, process audits, and documentation.
- Drive lean manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives to reduce waste, improve workflows, and enhance operational performance.
- Collaborate with the Plant Manager, engineering, and quality teams to meet production deadlines, troubleshoot issues, and implement new equipment or processes.
- Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate with Programming and Engineering teams to optimize machining processes for improved efficiency, quality, and productivity.
Requirements:
- 10+ years in machining and technical management, with hands-on experience in aerospace or nuclear manufacturing environments.
- Bachelor's degree or college diploma in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, manufacturing, or a related field. Equivalent experience or Red Seal/Journeyman certification may be considered.
- Proven expertise in cutting tools environment, including tool selection and design for high-strength materials (e.g., titanium, Inconel, Stainless Steel).
- Extensive experience in drilling processes (e.g., deep-hole drilling, peck cycles) and managing process changeovers in high-mix production settings.
- Advanced proficiency in Mastercam for CNC programming and Vericut for toolpath simulation and verification.
- Strong knowledge of material removal processes, machining methodologies, and coolant management.
- Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and blueprint reading for precision components.
- Experience with ERP systems and quality management software is an asset.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills to manage teams and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
- Hands-on, energetic approach to problem-solving and process optimization.
- Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) is an asset.
