Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on and collaborative Data Engineering Manager to help shape and support our growing data infrastructure. Reporting to the VP of Technology, this role will lead key initiatives across our Snowflake analytics environment and operational SQL Server systems in Azure. You will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders in Technology, Analytics, and Operations to ensure efficient, secure, and scalable data pipelines, systems integration, and platform reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Team & Project Leadership

• Provide day-to-day guidance and support to a small team of data engineers
• Lead project planning and execution for data engineering initiatives
• Collaborate with stakeholders to align data engineering priorities with business goals
• Contribute to developing standards and best practices within the data engineering function

Snowflake Platform Management

• Design and maintain scalable data models and ELT processes within Snowflake
• Implement performance tuning, security roles, and cost-efficient design
• Keep current with new Snowflake features and recommend improvements

Azure SQL Server Operations

• Oversee the performance and stability of operational SQL Server databases hosted in Azure
• Manage database maintenance, backups, access control, and performance monitoring
• Coordinate with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to ensure system reliability

Data Integration & Quality

• Manage data ingestion and transformation pipelines using Azure Data Factory
• Ensure data quality, consistency, and lineage across all systems
• Develop documentation, reusable frameworks, and data governance standards

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Act as a key point of contact between the Data team and other technical and business teams
• Work with the analytics team to understand reporting needs and implement effective data solutions

What You Bring to GFD

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or data infrastructure roles
• At least 1 year of experience leading or mentoring engineers
• Strong background managing Snowflake and SQL Server environments in Azure

Technical Expertise

• Proficiency in SQL (T-SQL and Snowflake SQL), data modeling, and building ELT/ETL pipelines
• Experience using Azure Data Factory and Azure-native tools
• Scripting skills in Python (preferred) or Java for automation and orchestration

Leadership & Collaboration

• Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives, coach junior team members, and drive results
• Strong communication skills to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in SaaS or high-volume transactional environments
• Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance practices
• Certifications in Snowflake, Azure, or related platforms are a plus
