Led by Artistic and General Director Chris Abraham and Executive Director Sherrie Johnson, Crow's Theatre is located at the corner of Carlaw Avenue and Dundas Street East in Toronto's East End. Our home at Streetcar Crowsnest is comprised of four venues for dynamic cultural and community programming: the Guloien Theatre (200 seats), the Studio Theatre (90), the Nada Ristich Studio-Gallery (80), and our Lobby Bar.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Crow's Theatre is seeking a results-driven Director of Sales and Marketing to join our dynamic team in the office. The Director of Sales and Marketing plays a crucial role in revenue generation through ticket sales, subscriptions, and other income streams, while developing and implementing marketing strategies, building an engaged and loyal audience base, and maintaining a strong brand presence in the marketplace.
Reporting to and working in collaboration with the Artistic Director and Executive Director, the position involves strategic planning, team management, budgeting, and cross-departmental coordination to maximize the theatre's financial success. Direct reports include the Senior Marketing Manager, Graphic Designer and Manager of Ticketing and Venue Services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve revenue goals.
- Sales Team Leadership: Lead, motivate, and support the marketing, tele-sales and ticketing teams to achieve targets.
- Target Setting and Monitoring: Set, monitor, and ensure the achievement of sales targets.
- Staff Management: Recruit, train, and develop sales and marketing staff.
- Ticket Sales Maximization: Implement strategies to maximize ticket sales and occupancy rates.
- Program Development: Develop and manage subscription programs to build a loyal customer base.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including potential patrons, sponsors, and partners, as well as ensure consistent, high-quality customer experiences through the box office and front-of-house teams.
- Marketing Campaigns: Lead the marketing team in developing and executing promotional campaigns across print, digital, and promotional channels.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage revenue projections, marketing budgets, and reforecasting throughout the season. Prepare regular sales reports for executive leadership.
- Digital Strategy Management and Oversight: Lead and coordinate digital marketing initiatives including email marketing, social media, website analytics, and digital advertising to drive engagement and sales.
Skills and Experience:
- Sales Leadership: Proven experience leading and managing sales teams.
- Sales Strategy: Strong understanding of sales principles and strategies.
- Financial Acumen: Ability to analyze sales data and develop financial forecasts.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Problem-solving: Ability to identify and address sales and marketing challenges and opportunities.
- Digital Marketing & Analytics Expertise: Strong knowledge of SEO, SEM, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Meta Ads, and email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, WordFly, or Campaign Monitor). Familiarity with CRM systems such as Tessitura or Spektrix, UTM tracking and campaign attribution, A/B testing strategies, and content management systems (e.g., WordPress,Drupal, or DesignEdit). Experience with a range of paid media platforms, including Meta, TikTok, and LinkedIn is a strong asset.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, or a related field. (Master's degree considered an asset)
- 7+ years of progressive experience in marketing, sales, or business development.
- 3+ years in a senior or management role, ideally leading a team.
- Strong sales skills including in-depth knowledge of sales techniques, pricing strategies, and revenue management.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively present sales strategies and performance reports to senior management.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret sales data, market trends, and customer behaviour.
- Ability to make data-driven decisions and adapt strategies based on insights.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with customers and corporate clients.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other departments to achieve common goals.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and partnership building.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions and customer preferences.
- Innovative mindset to explore new sales opportunities and approaches.
- A proven ability to grow customer/patron engagement, improve retention rates, and increase sales through strategic relationship-building and outreach.
- Experience working with ticketing management software / CRM systems.
- Experience with budgeting and forecasting.
- Experience in the arts and culture sector is preferred.
- Ability to work in-person from our office at 345 Carlaw Avenue in Toronto as this is not a remote position.
COMPENSATION
This is a permanent full-time, in-office employment position with a salary commensurate with experience. The position includes participation in Crow's Theatre's extended health benefits package and pension plan. Standard 40 hours, with occasional evening and weekend availability expected, particularly during show runs.
Salary Range: $85,000 - $105,000
