Investment Data Business Analyst - Private Assets Focus

Overview:
Our client, a leading investment management organization, is seeking a highly skilled Investment Data Business Analyst to support a strategic data initiative focused on enhancing data lineage, documentation, and governance across both public and private asset classes. This role will play a critical part in mapping end-to-end data workflows, identifying data dependencies, and supporting future-state data architecture planning.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of investment data workflows, with a particular emphasis on private markets, and possess the ability to collaborate effectively with investment teams and technology stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead structured discovery sessions across investment teams (public and private assets) to understand data creation, consumption, and transformation workflows.
- Document current-state data flows and lineage from both business and system perspectives, focusing on upstream and downstream processes outside of a proprietary data warehouse.
- Map data sources, ingestion pipelines, and handoff points to assess synchronization, scalability, and operational efficiency.
- Engage with business users to identify pain points, data quality challenges, and unmet data needs.
- Standardize business terms, data definitions, and associated metadata to support governance and improve data consistency across the organization.
- Create clear traceability between data sources and business use cases to enable alignment with target-state architecture and strategic objectives.
- Collaborate with data governance, architecture, and engineering teams to inform future-state data platform requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Data Business Analyst within an investment management, asset management, or financial services environment.
- Strong knowledge of private markets data workflows (e.g., private equity, private credit, infrastructure).
- Demonstrated experience in data lineage mapping, process documentation, and metadata capture.
- Familiarity with enterprise data warehouse environments, data ingestion pipelines, and cloud-based data platforms.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working across front-office investment teams and technical teams.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Located in or near Toronto, with the ability to work in a hybrid capacity.
- Experience with data governance tools and frameworks (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation).
- Understanding of regulatory requirements or reporting frameworks relevant to investment data.
